44 are cool, but unless you hike in bear country a 9mm, 45acp or 357 are all fine.

    Javelinas? 9mm is overkill.

Mountain lions really aren't that big either. People have fought them off w sticks and pocket knives.

    I actually took a 400lb hog w a 9mm to the head. Just don't miss. lol

Just to mix things up a bit:

And Boston T. party once wrote of a friend who had to unload all six rounds of .357 to kill a mountain lion.

If it has four legs I just bring my .44.

I tried to come up with a scientific answer to the question. I took a Colt SAA, Colt Python, Colt 1911A1 and a Glock 23 and put them on my kitchen table. In front of each firearm I placed a book on Phycology (The science of algae, or seaweeds). After ten minutes both revolvers were on page 13 yet the Colt 1911A1 was only on page 5 and the Glock was still on page 2. I Then realized that I had forgotten to turn off the ceiling fan.:green:
    Back to the drawing board.

I had something similar happen to me once.

Irresponsible guide. Just because he got very luck with his shot placement does not change the fact that a 9mm is a woefully inadequate round for bear defense. When I am in areas with mammals that see me as a potential food source, the caliber at a minimum should start with a 4 and end in magnum or Casull.

This is like when your on a Motorcycle, or truck, or any motorized vehicle forum, and some one asks the inevitable question,
"which is better, synthetic or organic oil"?
