If y'all want to make this about women, you need to consider something besides the single "sexy" appeal...swinging...
The M1A requires remaining loyal to a single round...in this case, 7.62*51 (AKA .308).
The AR-10 is more 'flexible"....
Been seeing some deals lately and started wondering what the next rifle should be. Been wanting a 7.62/.308 but can't decide between "AR-10" and M1A.
What are you guy's thoughts?

I'll post a pic of the ruined M1A after Christmas.......
Hey, it's after Christmas now and you promised pictures.
I carried a M14 in boot. In August. In the south. Didn't do well with it either. Heavy.M1A more accurate and more reliable
I am stuck on iron sights, but, I did put a Springfield 6X40 Government Model 7.62 on mine. It was offered by Springfield at a discount when I bought the M1A. Works fine for my use.True story.....
A few weeks ago, we had a young man in an LTC class (early twenties). He took one look at my Springfield M1A NM w/Springfield 4X14X56 Government scope (Gen 3 mount).....and proclaimed....
Whoever put that scope on that gun ruined it. I asked politely...how so?
It's too big a scope........I asked if he ever shoots long range.............
No, but my cousin does and he said you don't need a big scope to shoot long range......
I smiled.....and resumed the class...............

Only qualified at the lowest level with it.
Then I was issued a M16 and qualified expert with it. Go figure!
Um, yeah. Not really hard to do honestly.I'm lost. This gun is less accurate than the AR10 equivalent?

And the AR10 that can outshoot this can be had for less than this?

And comes with all this now?

If that's truly the case, I should probably stop looking at the M1A and just pick up one of the many Precision Rifles out there around the $1K mark that are sub MOA accuracy out of the box (supposedly) I was hoping the M1A could pull double duty as precision and hunting.Um, yeah. Not really hard to do honestly.
But hey, two free mags ($40). AR10s have a scope mount built right in for free.
I had a DPMS Oracle in 308 with a floated tube and new trigger that shot 1/2" groups. That rifle with upgrades ran about $1000.If that's truly the case, I should probably stop looking at the M1A and just pick up one of the many Precision Rifles out there around the $1K mark that are sub MOA accuracy out of the box (supposedly) I was hoping the M1A could pull double duty as precision and hunting.
Yes, I know the difference, but so what? My experience with the M14, which wasn't good, is still my experience.Comparing AR-10 vs M1 not an M16
