The volunteers of the TEXAS BORDER VOLUNTEERS have accomplished a great deal, though they have few available days to volunteer each & relatively small numbers.

Fwiw, I've met with & suggested to our 2 TX Senators that a force of retired GIs be recruited/paid a small salary to help the border patrol seal the border. = BOTH of our US Senators are in favor of my idea.
(Inasmuch as we all get a pension, we don't need a BIG salary & many of us might well volunteer, if our room/board was reimbursed.)

They should just establish a boundry anywhere from about 5.56 mm to 1/2 inch or so at a time. You wouldn't need thousands of miles of 10 feet high wall that way.
