This is actually based off a 125gr Nosler BT, couldn't find a load using the SST.

That graph is actually a good representation of the sub sonic trajectories.

Found the 110gr TSX online, gonna hunt for them local though.

Also going to pick up a pound of Win 296. Seems to be on the upper end of the velocity spectrum for both the 110s and 125.

Book says my 110 Vmax should be running at 1950 with 17.6gr of 4227 and I'm getting 2025 with 17.3gr. If I get the same little boost using Win296 I should be able to get around 2200fps from the 125s and a little over 2400 with the 110s.

Not sure if I will run them that fast though. Will see what the rifle likes.

I also noticed that the published max load for 4227 for a 110gr Vmax completely fills the case, may not be able to get to he published max.

    I get a little over 2400fps (chronoed) w VMax 110s & H110 out of a 16" bolt action.

    H110 is similar to Win296 I've heard.

The loads and velocities are identical on the Hodgdon site.

    40A,

I wish you no ill will.

If you recall, I was simply extemporaneously discussing the calibers I've known used on feral pigs by me and my neighbor.

I full appreciate I strayed off the precise language of the thread and for that, you chastised me.

I did a short amount of barking back.

    No biggee.

Then another person, straying off topic too, decided to join in with his opinion about me.

    Ay yi yi.

Let's agree, if at possible, this was just a minor flare up over what is and isn't allowed to be discussed on a thread.

BTW, if I start a thread about oranges and on the same thread you discuss orange flavored apples, it'll not knot up my knickers.

    Younggun,

    Thanks for asking.

I'll keep my eye on this thread as I'm still learning more and more about 300BO Supersonic bullets!

    (I'm staying on topic)

I don't care what anyone talks about. I'm gonna see what people use, get mouthy, talk shit, have fun, and maybe gain some knowledge along the way.

Still can't find those .22 FMJ sabots though.

You don't need sabots. Just crimp enough to hold the 22 caliber bullet in the 30 caliber neck. Good to go.

Can I just use a pair of pliers to squeeze the neck down?

What was your issue with SSTs?

Fragmenting, lack of penetration, lack of expansion, accuracy?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I mean they killed the pig, but they all ran off and did not pass through. On pigs I've had nothing but bang flops with the black tips with shoulder shots.

I've had the opposite experience with SST, in just about every caliber except .223 LOL

Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk

To clarify that is because I have zero experience with .223 SST because I do not hunt with a .223 AR.

ETA I'm an idiot. This thread is not about .223 lol ded

If you plan to roll your own try to find Alliant 300MP. I'm getting 2315fps with an 8" barrel and black tips at 2.250" OAL.

Closest I could get with H110 or W296 was in the low 2200 range.

I use 6.8 120 SST factory load. Happy with that performance fo sho. I don't shoot 300 bo, but the hog hunters I know that shoot it use the 110 grain Barnes Tac TX loads. They're specifically designed for blackout to expand at lower velocities (not sub sonic low) I think down to like 1400 fps, but don't quote me on that number. If I recall also, the standard TTSX expands at slower velocities than the TSX and the Tac TX will expand even lower, which is why I think it was only made for the blackout. Good luck. Post pics or it didn't happen!

I just received the new Lyman #50 loading manual and it has a nice, expanded section on the 300BO. My preference runs to heavier bullets so I'll focus on 150 grain projectiles. With a 1:10, that's the go to twist for 147 grain slugs.

I have thousands of bullets running from 147 to 168 grains so they'll come in handy. I don't hunt but hunter friends offered to hook me up with soft point and hollow point bullets in that weight range. Got some invitations to hog hunt, too......big smile!

Got lucky with my powder, too. H110 is what I use to load .410 3" shot shells so there's plenty of that in the storage barn. Lyman #50 has some nice recipes for H110 powder.

    Just for clarity:

When I say "black tip" I typically mean AP. it seems the 110gr Barnes may also have black tips.

If you are talking about the Barnes, not sure that I will bother looking for another powder.

I'm getting 2150ish with 125gr SST and can still increase the charge. Should be able to get up to 2200 or so easily.

I'm testing these from a 16" barrel. Couldn't say what happens when they hit, went too deep in to the berm to dig out by hand.
