I was just there few minutes ago as I have the site in my favorites and there are
folks still posting there today.
Someone is hacking the website and back then (and maybe when this started a week or two ago) google search results show Viagra pills or something like that for 7.62x54r.net. I’m not sure how I discovered it but back in May I stumbled upon 62x54r.net and realized it was still a working site at that address. I’m in IT but I’m not a web developer though if I had to guess 62x54r.net is like a mirror site or backup or something like that may not really supposed to be public knowledge. I’ve been using 62x54r.net for the last couple weeks. Interestingly a google search no longer has results for 7.62x54r.net at all but does show 62x54r.net. My guess is the site owner hasn’t updated or done anything with the site in a long time so when it gets hacked there’s no one to do anything about it for a while. It’s a shame. Even though it may be a bit outdated and someone of the information is no longer considered correct there’s still a lot of good info and example pics there. The page I use most is the rarity chart. I took an Excel copy of it the last time the site was down just to make sure I’d still have access to it.
People always come see what you are shooting when shooting the M44. One time I was out in the middle of the desert in AZ shooting and some guy pulled up and got out of his truck and started walking up to me. I thought there was going to be a problem but he said "I just came over to see what the hell you were shooting!"Thanks for the replies. I've had the subject Mosin, of course, but also an M39 which was decent and a couple of M44s. I like the M44s the most simply because of the noise and fireball. I may keep one of those, but I'm clearing out the largest part of the Commie section of the safe.
