Hmmm. It was about 1977 or so that I started with the .44 Magnum. After that, the 7x47 (.222 Remington Magnum necked up to 7mm) and .308 Win followed very quickly. Then .45 Colt, .45 ACP, and I was off to the races.

I started with .38 special because commercial was just too expensive. But the real reason I started was to load "light" .45 ACP rounds for my Grandfathers's Webley that had been converted. Standard .45 ACP is way too much pressure for the old girl.

Wow, I thought a $3.00 materials cost for a box of 50 9mm was cheap. I swear I was born in the wrong era.
I still haven't finished shooting up all the $2.95/box-on-sale CCI Blazer 9mm that I bought not that many years ago at Academy. For a couple of years there, it went on sale at that price at least once a month.

Sometimes reloading isn't cost-effective. Rarely, but sometimes.

Sheesh, when was that? I would have bought every shipment.
~15 years ago. I bought many, many thousands of rounds. However, since it's aluminum-cased, I haven't yet shot all of it. I mostly shoot indoors and all the indoor ranges I use prohibit aluminum-cased ammo.

I'm only 27. But I still remember when winchester white box was 4.99 on sale at Academy. (When hand gun rounds were kept behind the gun counter). But now I buy 1000 heads for $80+30 for primer+$15 for powder. Making each FMJ round 12.5 cents a round. When cash flow is low it's worth the work; especially after a 7 day vacation at cancun with the family.

    Rediscover reloading?
    About to happen!

Reloaded .44 mag and .375 H&H way back when in Lubbock during my education.
    Long given it up.

A buddy is the accuracy obsessed loader I've never been.

Yesterday found a "deal" on a .338 Lapua rifle.
Even my favorite ammo seller said "Don't buy it, dummy". Now, there's an honest guy.
He says: "The Lapua is chambered for $5 bills!!!!!"
    :spank:

Within an hour of aquiring the rifle I'd spent $500 on factory ammo.
Anyway, my reloading buddy ordered me $600 worth of .338 Lapua supplies today. Need get him a check.
So much for my "deal" on the rifle, huh???

Though......338 Lapua should get me the accuracy I've wished for from my 50BMG!

Shot for a first impression today 20 rounds.

S&B Match and Hornady. Both 250 gr.
    0.75 vertical
    1.5 horizontal group
    at 100 yards.
HOT today. Mirage today was like I've never seen it.

That is a fine first outing.

All the reloading components should be here before the weekend.
This rifle is just made to motivate reloader-guys, methinks.

.338 Win Mag while I was stationed in Alaska in 1998. I've been reloading for ever weapon that I own, and have casted bullets for all of my handgun cartridges ever since.

    Rediscovering!

Just pulled out almost 300 new and once shot 45-70 brass out of a box on a shelf.

Have 2 rifles with a 5-6-inch tall vernier sight with a tiny aperture.

Anybody can, with a modest investment and skill, hit a quarter at 100 yards with a .308.

I'm thinking that same feat with black powder and iron sights would be a bit more gratifying.
