Wow. Just...wow. How does the theoretically biggest gun rights proponent in the world manage to look that incompetent with a firearm?
Because he really isn't a gun person, but a person who profits from the gun industry. It would be like watching the 70 year old investor in a Formula One car race team drive a F-1 car at Monaco. It isn't going to go well.
An Elephant is such an easy target. Even a raging Elephant is slow by a hunters standards.
There is the whole macho or bragging rights business about shooting the biggest of animals. In reality, it takes the least skill to shoot the largest animals. This comes up a lot in my area of hunting - hogs. Everyone wants to shoot the big boars. The bigger the boar, the larger the kill zones, the easier to hit. Anybody can kill a large (200-300 lb) or giant boar (>300 lb). Lots of folks can hit them on the run. Hitting a 6 lb piglet that is running scared causes folks to burn a lot more ammo.
5 of my buddies got together to hunt hogs a couple of weeks ago. They got on a sounder of 20-30 hogs. Because of livestock in the area, they got 1 shot each. Everyone was supposed to pick different hogs. People were supposed to pick a hog in the sounder that corresponded to the position of the shooter in the row. The guy on the far left was to take a hog on the far left. The guy middle left was to take a hog middle left in the group. The guy in the center a hog in the center, etc. After the countdown, 2 hogs were down, and 1 ran off wounded and died in the brush. Everyone claimed, "I got mine!" The hog in the brush had been shot once. The smaller hog that went down immediately had 1 shot in it. The biggest boar in the sounder had 3 shots in it.
Everybody wants to shoot the big ones.
