Few things are as satisfying as putting on a stethoscope and listening to one of those things ticking over perfectly, keeping a loved one alive.
Sometimes you don't even need the stethoscope.

Eta. A couple years ago we had a pt come into our lab. The doc only wanted us to xray her valve to see how it was moving. She was short of breathe. To look at her she was a healthy looking ~ 60 yo. Iirc she was on her second artificial valve. The leaflets were barely moving. It was a Friday. When i asked about her on Monday I was told she did not make it through the weekend. After doing this for 20+ years I don't let things get to me very often. But hearing that news got to me.

Moving to another gig. No more being on call. No more weekends or holidays. No more staying late because the Dr's don't give a shit the shift ended 3 hours ago.

I still have a few years before retirement. Plan is to call it quits when I hit 60.

Good deal! On both accounts. Enjoy the new job, and the goal to exit while you are still able to fully enjoy life. I am still new at retirement status, but so far, I highly recommend it.
