Thermal vs night vision

I think I'm leaning to thermal but are they completely useless in the day?

Younggun answered properly. I use hand warmers during the day as targets to sight in my thermal.

I figured out that a piece of foil tape works pretty good as well if it’s warm out. Especially on a piece of dark paper

I tried it once with mixed results, but it wasn't the warmest day. I can see a coke can, so the foil should work in good sun.

I've read some reviews of the x sight failing in a short time. Also that the zero gets lost when changing batteries. Anyone have knowledge on that?
Anything similar for the thermals?
