This has been in here a few times, but it's a fave and "perfect" for what it was built for...winning service pistol matches in the military. Built in the FT Benning AMU shop, it'll do under 3-inch 10-shot groups at 50 yds with match ball from a machine rest. It's all business, not pretty, but I like it.

When Dad died some 3o years back, I took his old WWII to the pistolsmiths at McBride's in Austin, and had all non-numbered worn parts replaced. Many internal improvement mods not outwardly visible. It shot well. My Engineer Grandson @ Dallas has it now. I told him to take it to the range. leVieux

Some well know Smith created a double action 1911 back in the day. I can't recall his name at the moment
Yes there was a double-action 1911. Don't recall how many were made, but @Mad John has a thread he started discussing them on the forum.

Colt also offered for some years, the Colt Double Eagle, which was a double-action SA based off the 1911.

I'm mighty fond of my Kimber Ultra CDP - I can't figure how any 1911 could be any better. I like my PSA 1911 too, but I wouldn't want to carry it.
The Ultra CDP is the only Kimber I own. Mine was my primary carry for several years.
It has always been reliable and accurate using a variety of ammunition.

There's been a few. Para made a DA 1911 (the LDA), Colt experimented with a 1911 DA prototype, and then there's of course the Double Eagle you mentioned.

I think a lot of S&W's steel/alloy frame semi autos in the 80s and 90s were basically 1911s weren't they? Those were DA/SA.

My first handgun was/is a Kimber 9mm Target II.
I put 6000 rounds thru it and finally had to change the springs. I have also changed the target sight to a fixed and added some other little "upgrades". It's definitely my gun. No one else's. I love it.
    Perfect, probably not.
I am currently waiting on a pistol build from David Clevinger. It's close to done.
Again, it should fit me well but probably few other's.
    Perfect, probably not.
My "perfect" 1911 would be a commander in 9mm with a rail and magwell. 20lpi checkered front strap/MSH. CC beavertail and hammer. Bull barrel, flush cut. MRDS, no fixed sights. Tri-top slide. No ball cuts. Flat trigger in a square trigger guard. Mild melt and flames engraved on the muzzle. All EE internals.
That sounds about perfect --- to me.
