This question came to mind while viewing another thread requesting recommendations for pocket carry. Not wanting to derail the thread, I thought I would ask this serious question on a new thread.

What are the merits of pocket carry? I understand the weapon is well-concealed, but don’t you lose access when seated?
I carry often -almost always - and I usually have my North American Arms .22 in a pocket in addition to my primary. But I would have to stand or straighten out while sitting to access it.

I am big enough that I could easily get away with an Airweight or even a G26 in my pocket, but I’d have to stand up to retrieve it. For me, that means losing access to my firearm, while seated to watch a movie, go to the theatre, dine out, or drive a vehicle. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for your response.
I agree with most of the other posters here. I prefer pocket carry for many reasons, not the least of which is ease of concealment. As far as access, there are many ways around that. I personally would only need to straighten my leg a bit to draw, but if I ever needed to, I'm probably going to stand anyway for the shot, so it would all be part of the motion. You have to practice that draw, like all other things with responsible carry techniques. Howevern if you are bigger and that's an issue for you, companies like 5.11 have excellent pants and shorts that have a second pocket a little lower and more inward which offer super easy access while sitting.

The new Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 is worth a look next time you visit a LGS. 380 up to 12 rounds 9.8 ounces empty. I don't leave home without mine since my bride commandeered my hellcat....
