I'm not quite sure what to make of this story....
On one hand I applaud the student for standing up for what they believe in and sticking up for their classmate but on the other hand I am shocked that the ISD is either defenseless or chooses to be defenseless at the idea of a cross dressing day and a boy wearing his girlfriends dress to his classes.
Those kind of actions seem a little too much like the students are just doing it to defy and frustrate the faculty knowing that they won't be able to do anything about it without being criticized or called out for violating some type of personal rights more than trying to take a stand for something they actually believe in.
Am I way off on this or what?

Wearing a dress and heels to school is more American than the people that stand by and declare it evil.

This country is about personal freedoms and being able to do what you want so long as it does not harm others. It's a harmless social day ... I don't see the big problem.

The absolute biggest problem in this country is people trying to tell other people how to live their lives. Whether it's the socialist left, or the evangelical right.

Even if he was just having fun- so what? He's a kid. Let him have fun. The argument that he'd be distracting other students from learning in a public school is an effing joke. Almost no one goes to public school to learn. They go to do their time.

Obviously I don't condone this nut wearing heels and a dress... but it's really no different than us criticizing someone for wearing anything else we don't deem "normal" or "acceptable".

Every normal or acceptable item was made up at some point.

Thats our future and our future looks bleak. In the end time what is evil will be called good and what is good will be called evil.

What is this supposed to mean? A young man wearing heels is evil? By who's standards? Are you opposed to women wearing pants, too? What about men who carry umbrellas? Or is this an attack on his supposed orientation?

You know, my grandpa and his friends did things far more scandalous than this at their school, like flying a Nazi flag off the flag pole as a prank. I'm sure everyone involved grew up to be just fine.

I wonder what the student's parents think about him wearing heels? Even if they support him, etc., I wonder what they really think about him doing that?? Speaking for myself and my wife, because of our beliefs I don't we could deal with it very well. My feelings only, but if I were his father I think I would feel like I had failed him somewhere along the line. He certainly has a "right" to do it as long as it's not causing a disruption at school. This is probably gonna' piss somebody off but......................if you're not on a school campus day after day, and your ideas about what goes on there are based on your experiences when you were in school.........I would step out there and say you probably have NO IDEA what it's really like today. The challenges for the students and staff are COMPLETELY different from what they were just two to three years ago, And as plumbers say, "...poop flows downhill". The changes are a direct result of the clowns (excuse me, I mean legislators) in Austin, TEA and state gov. Just my two bits worth from what I've seen change from 1971 (first year teacher) to 2008 (year I retired as a campus administrator).

Edit: I was away from public education for 10 years from '79 to '89 in the construction business and I couldn't bellieve the differences that had taken place during that time!

Back in my day chewing gum in class was a real big no no.
    exactly!
And boys couldn't have hair that touched their collars.
We had a bunch of silly rules that we may have not agreed with but you know what? We had to abide by them, if we didn't we got sent to D-Hall.

No God does not speak to me with an audible voice he speaks through his word, the Bible.
And I have read the Bible, and been taught about the Torah and understand this one truth. Man wrote these words and has twisted them time and time again for their own devices. It is unfortunate that the intent of the words has been lost and twisted in time. I guess my wearing of eye liner or an earing would be considered sins against god? ... awww. wait one, eye liner was worn by men before it became a mainstay of the ladies. I guess you must have issues with all the women who now wear what was originally a mans vanity? Or earings, originally again, a male thing... Trust in God, but beware the preacher...be informed and make choices based upon sound reason.

I have been to a number of places where the Bible was held up as the reason and justification for the actions of men. I am sad to say they were usually places where blood flowed like water.

I must stop now.. as we have drifted from the original intent of this thread... I support the kid and hope he continues to challenge authority and grow as a free thinking and productive person.
