I have a Remington 870 pump shotgun with what ever choke it came with. If I want to shoot slugs through it should I remove the choke? Is there anything I should do to it before shooting slugs through it?
if this is a screw-in choke, then no, do not shoot it with the choke tube removed. I would screw the choke out and see what it says on the side. If this is an express model, the majority of those came with a modified choke and it should have such etched on the side of the tube. The modified choke is ok to use with slugs though i prefer an improved cylinder choke.
I normally use an old single shot single action 12gauge shotgun when I go hunting in places that only allow shotguns with slugs for medium sized game hunting. This year I have been taking my brother with me and wanted to make sure that my pump 12 gauge could handle a slug. I was not sure if the choke would be a problem or not. That way he can use my single shot.
