Shave like a MAN: Safety Razors and Straight Razors

King of shaves gel kind of sucks. It works but C O Bigelow is the shit. Need to order some in bulk.

I'd like to get a hot lather machine but the new version of the olds barber shop models are garbage from what I read.

May be finally ordering a whipped dog so I can fillet my face also.

Thanks. I am really enjoying it! Kinda cool shaving like my dad used to after just finding out that I'm going to be a daddy.
No I haven't but will be picking some up to try in the Merkur. Favorite blade so far is the Astra Platinum

A few months back went the other way, after years of your above.
Bought a Braun ... worthless shave, but quick, no fuss, and I don't walk around looking like an old Wal-Mart denizen.

And it makes that once a week old fashioned shave, as above, feel sooooo good!

I imagine that traditional shave does feel great after the 'letric all week.

I shave once a week. Knocking off a full week's growth in a single pass, after a hot shower, with a straight razor feels amazing.

I need to try this then. I shave once a week and As I am shaving I am cursing the person who thought of scraping your face with a sharpened piece of metal.

Prep is crucial.
If you don't have a way to apply a hot towel, a hot shower does the same. Gets your face ready for a shave.

Apply a proper lather which keeps the skin lubricated.

Hot water makes all the difference.

I run my lather just dry enough to stay on my face.

Wetter than you'd think.

Dried lather is worse than just bare skin.

Yes I always take hot shower before shave. I sometimes shave in shower. Has anyone heard of storing your razor in alcohol when not in use. I heard it keeps it sharper as the blade does not oxidise, also using a denim (old jeans) Strop.

I don't oil the blade, but I do strop it on leather before each use.

I shave 1x a week in the shower towards the end of the shower. Was using a Schick something but just got in a 4 pack of the executive from the dollar shave club. 9$= 4x 6 blade cartridges. I hear good things.
