That word carries too much power...

Depends. If Dan Perry was a transgender activist, Garret Foster was a TNM or OCT supporter, and this happened at a pro-life event, I don’t think anyone here would be pushing for a pardon.

I used to have a lot more faith in elected officials governing instead of politicking, but populism demands politicking instead of good governance. I’ll be glad when this current era of populist-activist governance ends, because what good is having laws if government isn’t going to follow them.

And there it is. BoPP, in their rulemaking, enshrined an unlimited power related to following rules.
These rules are prescribed for the performance of the constitutional and statutory powers and functions vested in the Board. In no event shall they or any of them be construed as a limitation or restriction upon the exercise of any discretion by the Board or by a parole panel.

That doesn’t give them unlimited statutory power, but there’s probably enough wiggle room for the board to do what it wants when the governor requests a pardon.

Not sure how I feel about that bureaucratic rule yet.

The politics of the unlawful march or the driver defending himself have nothing to do with my belief that this prosecution and conviction was a gross miscarriage of justice .

After all the effort they put into railroading him? Yep.

The detective who interviewed Perry and the witnesses the night of the shooting claims the DA ordered him to leave information out of what was sent to the grand jury. He retired in protest instead. He also says the "eyewitnesses" changed their stories between his interviews and their testimony in court. He was called as a witness for the defense but apparently the jury wasn't prepared to believe him.

Now I'm seeing an article on Fox News claiming that DA Garza is Soros backed and ordered investigators to hide exculpatory evidence. Apparently the case was considered closed and no charges were filed by the previous DA. Along comes Garza and reopens the case.

That’s all been known for a long time. Discussion started around post 775.
Well, they’re charging Perry after all.

Yup, we already know that Garza is a communist criminal who ordered evidence withheld, ordered a police officer to lie under oath etc. Typical leftist moves, nothing new. Move along.
When Abbott called for the pardon, it made national news. I wonder how much pressure the pardon committee is under now and how many of them fear for their lives. Imagine blms raping your whole family and burning down your house. I wonder if that's why the jury took 15 hours to deliberate on Sgt. Perry's verdict.

If he's pardoned, does his record get cleared, or is it always there?
Seems to me that he would not be allowed to own firearms.

    From TDCJ’s website
WHAT IS THE EFFECT OF A FULL PARDON?

A full pardon restores certain citizenship rights forfeited upon criminal conviction, such as the right to serve on a jury, to hold public office, and to serve as executor or administrator of an estate. In Texas, when a person discharges a felony sentence the right to vote is automatically restored.

A full pardon will remove barriers to some, but not all types of employment and professional licensing. Licenses are granted at the discretion of state licensing boards for each profession, and requirements for restoring licensing eligibility in a particular field should be obtained from that licensing board. A pardon will not restore eligibility to become a licensed peace officer in Texas.

A full pardon will not be considered for an offender while in prison except when exceptional circumstances exist.

A person receiving a full pardon after a conviction is entitled to an expunction of all arrest records relating to the conviction. This requires the applicant to request an expunction from the appropriate state court.
