    Suppose it was on purpose. and the 'autopilot' was an AI that was programmed to fly the plane autonomously. Testing such a system would be bound to attract all sorts of adverse criticism it being inherently dangerous and probably prohibited by some obscure Geneva convention rules. Recall that a recent military AI 'killed' it's handler when it was 'prevented' from attacking the target.
    So they get away with it, and maybe the plane is conveniently found with little damage in some field, then quickly hauled off without 'civilian' observation. or did they really 'loose' an $80mil plane? Are we being paranoidly suspicious yet?
