It is no secret that I am an advocate for the legless reptiles , even the venomous that wander into my yard. If this one is still under the shed, it will be ended. Nothing personal, but he just needs to go.Hope he makes a full recovery. And relocate that snake. To hell.
Indeed. But it was a learning experience, too. Went to YouTube and saw that you CAN pull them out. I had always thought that they had vicious hooks that wouldn't let them back out without massive tissue damage. The hooks are there, but pretty tiny. A good tug with pliers and they pop out. Not fun for the pup, for sure. But she was a trooper and they're all out. A couple we missed in her jaw came out POINT FIRST through the bottom of her jaw. Ouch. She is all good now. We hope that she won't mess with a porcupine again, but she tends to be a slow learner...
Shot one last week with .22 rat shot. Really surprised how effective it was.
Hope the pup gets better
I was pretty close up and it was out a rifle too. I guess those 2 factors help maybe?I’ve always had terrible luck with .22 rat shot.
The #12 .38spcl cartridges are meh. The #4 “big shot” capsules seem to be far more effective.
Hit a water snake with 3 rounds of the .38 #12 with no effect but the #4 did him in nicely.

The one time I used .22 ratshot on a water moccasin, it didn't even penetrate its scales.....I’ve always had terrible luck with .22 rat shot.
