We know you have issues, Bax. We still like you though.

    Dunno about the thread.
Don't we all? That's why I likes this place.

I was watching headlines at work and it started out "another mass shooting"...then later to "shot fired".. and just now to "they have apprehended the person of interest", who appears to be Chinese.

I am sure we will get the full story soon (massive eye roll).

I was trimming "trees" (mesquite) when I came upon this. I put the saw away and wandered the pasture a while.
These mesquite recover from some serious damage. I've got a few I'm going to clear out around the trunk and just let them do whatever they do. I suspect a smallish tornado came through here back in the late 1990’s, early 2000's.

Interesting theory, and you may be right!

We have a large cedar up the hill that is down and has a scorched base...I am guessing lightning strike.

We don't get that much rain out here.
There are some ancient giants across the field, along the banks of the seasonal stream.
I only trim those every couple of decades. Reclaim a dozen acres or so.
I'm surprised that 23+ year old trees aren't larger.

    Maybe because of the trauma?

No rain yet at my location. The road into the subdivision was interesting this afternoon. A grass fire scorched about a quarter acre. Sadly, it incinerated a roadside monument to a traffic death that the family has meticulously maintained for over a decade. There were power company vehicles on scene. I'm guessing they were fixing whatever broke and caused the fire.
