This Saturday [Sep 7th], the National Rifle Association will consider a plan for reforms to end its six-year legal battle with New York and chart a new path forward.

If the NRA can agree to a reform plan, it will then have to present that to Attorney General Letitia James. If they can’t agree on the details, it will be up to Judge Joel Cohen to determine what the final deal will look like. The board will vote on a plan this Saturday, according to a letter from Brewer Attorneys & Counselors, the gun group’s outside counsel.

The plan may not just culminate six years of legal throes but also its relationship with the Brewer Firm, which has overseen much of its legal strategy during that time. NRA CEO Doug Hamlin has already replaced Brewer with former Solicitor General and current Jones Day partner Noel Francisco in NRA v. Vullo, the group’s First Amendment case against a former New York financial regulator. A source familiar with the discussions told The Reload that the Brewer Firm has offered to terminate its relationship. Several other sources said the firm’s critics on the board planned to try and oust it at the meeting.

The NRA NEEDS to be reformed. If it just dies, then it becomes the blueprint of 'how to destroy gun rights groups'.
As much as I HATE what the NRA has become, it HAS to return to it's roots. There should be NRA ranges everywhere. They are actually quite good at making information building and improving ranges. They are great on Safety and marksmanship. THEY BLOW at running an honest organization. The bullshit started with the people who made it a private piggy bank. I remember when they had the audacity to send out unsolicited crap, and sending out a shame letter if you didn't send a 'contribution' for the unwanted crap. "The fish rots from the head".
The house needs to be CLEARED. Settle with NY. Move to TX. Leave the bullshit in NY. (and the bullshitters).

The recent 2024 NRA Board meeting held in Texas turned out to be a marathon session, with heated debates and behind-closed-doors discussions that left many wondering what direction the organization is headed. Stephen Gutowski of The Reload attended the meeting and provided a detailed report on the major developments.
A central point of contention during the meeting was the Special Litigation Committee, which oversees the legal strategy for the New York case. Reform-minded board members pushed to disband the committee and fire the NRA’s legal representation, led by Bill Brewer, a questionable lawyer whose firm has cost the NRA millions upon millions.

Despite their efforts, the reformers were outmaneuvered, and the committee remains in place for now.

The NRA’s future remains uncertain as it navigates legal battles, internal reform efforts, and a contentious political landscape. While reformers within the organization are pushing for change, the old guard has thus far managed to maintain control. At the same time, the NRA is gearing up for another crucial election year, focusing its efforts on keeping pro-gun candidates in power.

There can be no real “reform’’ unless they get rid of all Wayne sycophants and the Nominating Committee.

We should have listened to Neal Knox !

That Committee is the device which insulated Wayne from member retribution for decades. It is horribly anti-democratic ! It simply has to go !
