whats wrong with laundry detergent? indoor thermostats? I have both.....

Laundry detergent is bad...BAD...because it has phosphorus and other ingredients that will make their way to the sea and kill fish (I'm quoting the ranters out here), and thermostats are evil because people are too stupid, irresponsible, and selfish to set their thermostat lower so that they use less electricity or natural gas and therefore save the environment from more pollution (again, quoting the statist ranters...er, legislators). The California legislators have not forgotten their failed attempt to control thermostats here remotely, and a new bill is in the works to enforce it as law. Yes, it's that bad here.

The USA is "eat off the sidewalk" clean compared to other countries I have visited. Moscow, especially was horribly polluted. My white sneakers became gray and I desperately needed eyedrops, but none available there.

Absolute truth! Even a "modern, Western" city like Paris is unspeakably filthy compared to the worst American streets. Clean, tidy, and healthy are good things, but Americans are the most cleanliness obsessed people on planet Earth. My goodness, how did we ever survive before antibacterial soap and hand sanitizer....

It's all about control. Whether it's "public safety" (gun control) or "environmental", it all boils down to the socialists believing that they are the enlightened ones who should be running everyone else's life. Hey, that method works great in an ant colony!

Those of us who don't live in Austin have happily stood by and watched the place turn into Kalifornia-lite. Austin became sort of a leper colony for the libs. But just like mosquitoes or other parasites, those damn things keep multiplying and spreading. Before long, they're all over the place.

You are 100% correct about the control aspect...so true! And Kalifornia, you all have heard me say it in these forums a hundred times so listen up one more time from a Texan living in this shithole on the West coast: Be afraid, be wary, and be vigilant for ANY California transplants that move into your area because they WILL use every method at their disposal to turn your community (and eventually all of Texas) into another California. Unless you guys are active in stopping these people from becoming HOA board members, city council members, etc., you're totally screwed, and given the number of Californians slithering into Texas these days you're about 15 to 20 years away from becoming another California.

This is like almost every other aspect of the Progressive agenda, about control. The public input timing is pretty comical, almost as funny as something from Chairman Mao or Uncle Joe Stalin.

You want to make a statement?

Don't buy a stinking thing at any store within the Austin City limits (:)) AND let those stores owners and managers know why. I'll be goddamned if I've not going to be able to get a frigging bag to hold the shit I'm buying in a private transaction. When the tax REVENUE dries up, they'll have to relook their utopian plans. Oh, yes, and when some stores close up and open across the street, where they can give you a freaking bag, they'll take notice (and howl).

They're going to make it a law? Before, it was an Air Quality Management District that proposed it as a regulation.

That proposal was what really spurred me to leave CA... before I killed someone.

This morning I went to a restaurant in downtown Austin for breakfast but seeing all the people who were there, and their smug Liberal faces, caused me to lose my appetite. I felt like I was back in Cambridge MA. I fear that Austin may be a lost cause.

There is a couple places around here that I feel the same way... If my wife makes me go there, (because the food is good there) I always make sure to show up either in full camo, or covered in fish guts.

Another good method is to tell them you'll be ordering online and having it delivered to your home. My favorite line of all is to tell merchants that you're "taking your consumer dollars elsewhere." Makes their butt pucker, even if they try to act like it doesn't bother them.

Yes, word around the campfire is it's not any kind of official bill yet, but the liberals in the legislature are kicking the idea around again and trying to find an Obamacare-type of Commerce Clause to use from the state constitution in order to make it fly. We'll see what shakes out, but absolutely nothing the legislators do here will surprise me again.

Let me guess, any of them bleached blond biatches with their ponytails sticking out the back of their ball caps, sipping coffee, with their kid in a three-wheel "jogger's stroller" and a Golden retriever on a leash sitting next to her? Something like that? If so, that would undoubtedly be a California or Masshole Yuppie transplant.

Make sure you have control of your HOAs, city councils, or any other organizations to keep these Yuppie scum transplants from transforming the great state of Texas!

I think this is great COMMON SENSE thing to do. I lived in Alaska for a few years and I've never seen a more ecclectic mix of politics. All the Libs have guns. All the Repubs are green. Everyone carries their own bags into stores up there (unless they're new!). They carry their guns in too. I dont see a reason why this issue has to be partisan. It would benefit everyone.

And I hate to say this but it would bring us up to speed with the rest of the country. In many of the northern states people began to be more green in the 70's and 80's. We are missing a few things down here. Bike paths and green legislation are a few things I can think of. There is no reason to get paranoid and think the next step is full government control. Just my opinion!

I understand your viewpoint, but from someone living in Hell...er, California, the paranoia to these initiatives comes from the total incrementalism that has insinuated itself into society here as well as the state legislature. The problem is that they don't just propose something like this once in a while when a true necessity requires it, but rather they're in a race to regulate everything because we're all two steps away from destruction. At least that's the mindset here.

This is pretty inaccurate. We have functional green regulations for the most part. Texas has been very successful regulating air quality, as well as conserving wildlife etc. the thing is, since it doesn't fit the left's template of green, so we aren't... When in reality we are actually being successful in actual stewardship of our environment. Vs useless stuff like cf lighting.

I understand. I've heard about the California gun laws....ick. You have my condolences. :(

I think looking at the good that come of it, rather than the reasoning behind the people pushing it is important. Women gaining the right to vote was funded almost ENTIRELY by temperance groups...and look where they are now!

This is a good example of what people use up north. About a dollar. They fold up nice and are made of what I call parachute cloth. 4 can fit in a pocket. Eco friendly, lightweight, blah blah blah. Saves money. Mostly just saves the stores money. ;)

I wish more people would use the reusable bags because it is a good thing to minimize how much plastic waste we throw in landfills.
But...I hate the city forcing businesses to do/not do crap. Just isn't right, even though it has a positive impact on the environment.
I like the idea of boycotting Austin stores.
But.....RR and PF will probably be following right along here pretty soon.
I used to think RR was full of conservatives. Not.... they're commies too.

Environmentalist wackos encouraging power-hungry politicians and abetted by a sensationalistic media equals tyranny for you and me. I'm absolutely fed up with this whole environmentalist movement, as if you couldn't tell.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

You know what I see when I read crap like that happening in Texas? I see California or West Coast transplants transforming once free Texas into the same failed state. Stop these people every chance you get, or Texas will be California in another twenty years. As a famous radio host often says, don't doubt me on this.
That's the major problem in a lot of areas. The cockroaches from the Peoples' Яepublik of Kalifornia are spreading their socialist agenda everywhere they move. You'll hear them comment that they moved from there to get away from the regulations and taxes and then they pull the same shit at their new "residence" that caused the shitstorm currently running rampant in their former state. They've been trying to pull their anti-gun shit here in Nevada but so far, they've been ineffective in their efforts. Too many vocal gun owners here who are aware of the bullshit from that "Hellhole to the west" for them to succeed (at least so far).
It's a constant battle to keep them from trying to set up their socialist, anti-gun agendas....:banghead:

Even by their rationale I don't get the ban on paper bags.

Its embarrassing that Austin is Texas' capital.

Yeah, I know quite a few people who came in from elsewhere. I tell them the reason they found a job here in the first place was because of our laws, try not to muck it up.

Whoa Whoa Whoa slow your horses there. I'm a Texan stationed in California and they don't even have the bag law Austin just implemented. And further more the hippies out here are moving to Austin because it's becoming more liberal than California. We need to take back the Capitol of Texase. When you have tree loving hippies moving to Texas you know something is wrong.
