If LaPierre would step down from his position, and away from trying to direct any NRA operations, I believe there would be a quick surge in membership. The biggest thing the NRA has been known for since he took over the leadership position is pissing away money, on salaries (especially his own), and BS programs that add nothing to protecting gun owner rights!!

Alot of people I encountered in the last NRA expo said they too feel Wayne needs to retire and move on for the good of the organizations and allow people like Kim Rhode or Allen west to take over and start a new horizon and have massive recruitments and expanding more on youth movements like increased funding towards shooting groups and creating more opportunities to make this happen.

Yes still a lot of us Lifetime NRA Members still around. WLP has made it all but impossible to ever get rid of him because of his cronyism with the board members. You know it's bad when Ted Nugent and LTC West told WLP to F U C K off and walked away from their board seats. Neither are known to be "quitters", but they saw the writing on the wall and walked.............

Until the board members revolt nothing will change.............

For those younger, or who have forgotten:

The 1960’s was a decade of communist subversion in the world’s Universities. I was in Med school @ New Orleans 1965-‘69.

One Friday afternoon after school, we. stopped at an area watering. hole for a coldbeer on our ways home, and fellows pulled-out the fresh issues of Time, Newsweek, & U S NEWS & World Report .The magazines were lined-up atop the bar.

All 3 had cover stories on one, incident, the same riot.

Time said: Innocent demonstrators were brutally attacked by police in an unprovoked charge.

NewsWeek said: Several were injured in a clash b/t demonstrators and local police.

U S NEWS & World Report said: After numerous increasing charges by the rioters, and several Police had been sent to the hospital with head injuries from thrown bricks & stones; the Police reluctantly fired tear gas and non-lethal projectiles into the rioting crowd.

To us, also students but slightly older, it was very obvious what was going-on.

Our media had fully invested in their long campaign of hype & LIES, to promote communist subversion.

The left is doing cartwheels, while gun owners know better. The NRA has been ineffective and WLP’s personal ATM for years.

I bet the number of folks leaving the NRA, is balanced by folks joining other, more effective gun-right groups.

FPC and GOA are way way way way more effective and the liberals don't talk about them, which is good for us.

That is the impression we all got at the Houston Expo. Something is going to have to give in the coming future.

While I certainly agree with the NRA needing to go away. If the crackhead NY AG is successful, there COULD be some unintended positive consequences. WLP goes to jail, a new EVP is found from within the contingent wishing to reform the organization, new EVP cleans house. Likely? Probably not BUT, I do wish to see the NRA restored to the political juggernaut it once was.

Amen on your last sentence. The more 2A advocate organizations the better. Even if NRA stature reduced by NY AG efforts their supporters can still support Gun Owners of America, Second Amendment Foundation, Firearms Policy Coalition, and our own Texas State Rifle Assoc. For our out-of-state forum members be sure to join and support your state 2A advocates fighting state level issues.

The only way for your wishes to be achieved is to get rid of LaPierre, all of his sycophantic lackeys, and the ENTIRE ‘’Nominating Committee’’.

Wayne is both EVIL ,and arrogant, to the max.

If he really cared, he’d recognize this and ‘’retire’’.

But, even if he were gone, the Committee must go, too, and the Board must be reduced to a REAL functioning B o D !

Until then, not a penny !

Now that I’m 80 & retired, I can’t donate nearly as much; but it now goes to GOA.

    What a mess !

I would like to see more organizations take on training and funding roles for youth and adult marksmanship training like the NRA does.

Don't forget the administration of various shooting sports, too.

Personally, I decided the NRA had lost its mooring and was in trouble when they voluntarily gave up their status as the National Governing Body for international shooting events, i.e. the competitions that lead to the Olympics. That demonstrated that they no longer valued widespread civilian ownership of firearms for target shooting. It was an extended middle finger to much of their membership. It also caused people outside the shooting world to view the NRA as less legitimate than previously.

I have noticed this for the last 10 years while being active with the 4H shooting industry as when I first got involved with my daughter, NRA had an active role as well as funding and got to the point of teams requiring membership with NRA but later that changed as we saw less NRA trainers and just the grants given by them. It seems they have decided to divert their resources to lobbying and allow the organizations such as 4H, FFA, ROTC, SCTP, SASP, AIM and others to govern and train themselves but still get some funding. The funding support from them does give a great impression to the families of kids participating and most of the ones I know from various teams both 4H and SCTP all show strong support for NRA. Hell in the last Houston event I saw at least ten shooting teams that my daughter knew attend and had their team shirts on plus we had a booth in the event.

LaPierre's regime has greatly harmed the NRA. We all hope he loses at trial and gets what is coming to him. As Mr. le Vieux says, reduce the board -- to a dozen ACCOUNTABLE members and bring in an Ollie North as EVP. Maybe the grand old organization will regain some traction. It also needs to become interested in sponsoring shooting competitions again.
By the way, this year marks the 150th anniversary of the historic Creedmoor match between the US and Irish teams. There's a great Facebook page for those who use the medium -- Creedmoor 150 (1874-2024) -- with the grand match scheduled for this coming October at Oak Ridge, TN. One would think the NRA would be all over this wouldn't one, but one would be wrong.
