So he should have said "a bunch", or "a lot" of guns, and that would have been better?

"Arsenal" is the usual and preferred sensationalistic term with the media. "A large number" would be a less pretentious way to say it. Or "multiple". "Several"?

Or maybe...wait for it..."nearly 100"...as used in the last paragraph. But not "almost 100" as used in the little one-sentence summary at the top, because that's just awkward.

"insouciant" I had to look that one up.
"Mr. Mac, what does unprepossessing mean?"
"I was called that once, Lem. Looked it up in the dictionary. It's best you don't know what it means."
    "Uh-huh. Thank you."

"A follow-up investigation unveiled Carville allegedly had access to a plethora of firearms...."

    A...plethora?

Plethora was used in an attempt to make it seem like the guys 3 guns were a shit ton of them. If it really was in excess of 30 guns they would have used the number. No need to exaggerate the figure :)

I would consider use of the word "plethora" to be a sign of a news writer trying to sound smarter than they are. Got a feeling that person also uses words like "behooves" and "insouciant" whenever they can shoehorn them into a sentence, too. Seems a bit pretentious to me, and it leapt out of the sentence when I read it.
Yeah! And aren't they bound by the Commie Style Guide to say "virtual arsenal", anyway?
