It’s sad that I’m having trouble seeing holes in paper at 25 yards.

While I love red dots, my eyes aren’t getting any better and LPVO’s really seem to be in the sweet spot for me.

    I’ve got a Vortex Razor HD 1-6.
Glass is amazing but it’s damned heavy.

And also Steiner 1-4 P4xi that needs a home...debating what I’m gonna do with it, but it’s a very nice optic.

I’m thinking of putting the Steiner in my ARX, and selling the Meprolight M21 that’s on it currently...decisions, decisions

Ok, so was about to recommend a Vortex Razor HD Gen2 E (1-6×24), these things are great (mrad):

Yeah, I don't know who I'm trying to kid, this is where I'll end up.

Not sure on the HD gen1, but the gen2 is definitely a heavy beast.

The HD Gen2-E is way lighter than the Gen2 (heavier than a Burris MTAC, for instance, but not by that much...)

Both spec at 21.5 oz. so, yeah, heavy.
yeah, the math don't lie, but it definitely feels pretty light on the gun...

Have heard good things about the NX8 also, and they do come in a bit lighter, but no direct experience with those.

Man these things (LPVO) have come a long way in the last few years. At 1X to 10X, unless you need higher magnification, why use anything else?

I had rejected the NF ATACR as too heavy (this will actually be on a rifle for a 15 year old), but now I'm looking at the NX8 again. Basically, for this application I think I need to stay with the 30mm tubed scope, for weight.

I bet if I dug around in all the places my wife doesn't know about I could find 25 Aimpoints. There's a comp M4 on my truck gun now. But with the LPVO's available these days, I should probably sell them all because I don't know if I'll ever mount another one.

So why get a Gunsight Scout and not put a scout scope on it?

You could get a Ruger American or a million other choices if you were intending on putting a rifle scope on it.

Burris RT-6 blows the Strike Eagle out of the water. It’s not even close.
Everyone who has compared mine to a Vortex agrees. The glass is maybe just slightly better, but the eye box is WORLDS better. The best part is RT-6 can be found for under $300.
The XTRII 1-8 is comparable to the RazorHD, for less money.
The Trijicon 1-6 is also a great choice, but expensive.

I assume by "scout scope" you're referring to the Cooper classic definition. Cooper didn't have available the scopes that exist today. Why limit yourself to 2X - 8X power when you can get a variable that goes from 1X to whatever? Illuminated 1X is effectively an RDS. Unless I misunderstand your meaning?

Ruger Americans are ugly. I don't buy ugly guns. Well, unless they're Glocks, or synthetic stock Tikkas, or enclosed-hammer J-frames, or...

Yeah, I've shot those Burris (and liked them), but now I'm a glass snob, so I don't. I'm not sure of the compared eye relief between the 2 but it won't usually affect me once mounted - I'm a cheek weld nut. If I can't create a repeatable cheek weld on a rifle I'm not interested.

My Steiner P4xi is only a 1-5, but it’s a relative lightweight at 17.3 ounces
