LaRue Range Day: November 12, 2011

This was my first one. The best time to be in the lines is for the drawings. If you jump into a line close enough you can be in line and hear the numbers calling off. If you are there with 2 or 3 folks one can jump out of line to listen for numbers if they want. It was a good time over all. I shoot enough to feel justified spending the money and each of us got a free PMAG from the MAGPUL guys so that alone paid for one and a half tickets. A big stack of MAGPUL stickers. It was cool getting to meet Costa and Dustin from Top Shot

Lots of free stuff flying around got to check out some stuff I hadn't set hands on before stuff like that. I have to say shooting with a thermal optic is like shooting though a TV screen it was kinda weird.

Me and my brother were on the TOP SHOT stage board for at least a few minutes.

We camped at Georgetown lake Fri and Sat night. Good spot only one other group of folks in the whole camp both nights.

A friend of mine works for Larue in shipping and logistics. She told me they presold 1400 tickets with 3-400 more being sold at the door. My bigest complaint was there was no chance you could have shot everything. They needed 2-3x the guns on each station to help the turn around time.

We could have shot every station there but some of them didn't strike our fancy so we ran the 3 gun the medium range and top shot stage twice using different weapons on the 3 gun and different optics on the medium and top shot stages.

Seemed like more than 1800 to me. The free Dillo Dust and Pmag made it worth the $30.00. BBQ was good but a line to get it. I enjoyed the 3 gun the most. It was windy as heck I could not hit the farthest target on the long range.

The wife and I made the drive this year. We spent a lot of time in line and I think I only fired about 15 rounds all day, but it was nice to check out the range and talk to some of the regulars about matches there. Looks like I'll be adding Best of the West to my 3 gun schedule.

I found it interesting that the DPS guys couldn't hit the pumpkin with 3 passes. I know I can't do that, but shouldn't they be able to?

I found it interesting that the DPS guys couldn't hit the pumpkin with 3 passes. I know I can't do that, but shouldn't they be able to?

I wasn't too pleased with their second performance, where they were shooting at things between them and the spectators. Sure, they're shooting down, but bullets like to bounce up when they hit the ground... I was just glad I didn't go climb a berm to watch. I felt better with a few berms between me and them.

Sage, you are 100% correct. My dad & I both said the same thing- "did they just shoot over our heads?"

After they flew off someone on the medium range stage took out the tannerite filled pumpkin. I thought the samething to about them shooting close to in line with spectators but quickly got over it.
