This jerk told me one day he was in the Army. I go "Really, what was your MOS". He gave me a funny look and asked what does MOS mean. Busted on one question.

I've never entertained the idea of leading someone to believe that I was something that I'm not: therefore, I find myself intolerant of those who do. I am proud to be a former Marine Corporal artilleryman from 1982-1986. I didn't participate in Grenada or Beirut, (they didn't use self-propelled artillery for those actions), but I certainly had my shit packed an ready to go after the Beirut bombing. I shed tears of anguish and anger over those guys, but I couldn't help it if Reagan didn't let me go systematically level that country. Semper Fi, boys! And thanks to the rest of the honerable service members too - wherever you are!

Why do people lie about who they are? They can never keep the lie going forever and they end up looking like idiots, or worse. My AFSC was 45253B.

For some reason, I guess feeding the war machine isn't as glorious or deserving of respect as being a shooter. I don't agree with that, but some guys feel like they got screwed out of a cool job and stuck in the kitchen. I knew a guy who served as a cook in the Navy. He used that fact almost as advertising for his catering business.

Another Corpsman buddy of mine cooked for all of us one night....dayum....I mean....DAYUM! Turns out, when he was in bootcamp, he found out that he'd been invited to be the junior pastry chef at...The White House. Apparently he had made a go of a pastry restaraunt back east, entered some competitions, won some, lost some, bakery went belly up, so he joined the Navy....4 weeks into boot, got a letter from his wife about the White House Staff position...Bona Fide Chef, loving life as a "Doc" and patching up his guys. Hehehehe.

I had a dude that worked at Home Depot try and tell me he was a Navy SEAL and was medically retired at 19 due to his chute not opening until 100 ft off the ground from a 96,000 ft HALO jump. I couldnt help but laugh out loud. I didnt call him on it because I wanted to see what kind of bullshit I could dredge out of this entertainer. I asked him if he used a "squirrel suit" for that jump. I just made it up spur of the moment to see if he'd bite and damned if he didnt! About a month later I heard he tried to intervene in a shoplifting where the real LP guy was wrestling with a thief in the parking lot so this "SEAL" goes and grabs the guy. The story goes that the guy just throws this douchebag on the ground and starts kicking him in his face...man I wish I was there to see that!

Had another guy working at that same Home Depot try and tell me he was a Ranger but couldnt tell me what company he was in. He thought that the Ranger Battalions didnt have smaller companies within them. This was even after I told him I did my RIP at Benning and was assigned to C Co, 2nd Batt. I talked to another employee about him and she told me he couldnt even start a fire with a lighter on a recent camping trip they went on. DOUCHEBAG!

The great thing about these douchebags is they're all too stupid to fool anyone but the most naive.

I had a guy at a Home Depot tell my girlfriend and I the same crap. He was going to help me carry out some stuff I had bought, but I told him I could get it in the truck myself. Then he just came right out of nowhere and started telling me how he was a SEAL but was retired due to being wounded in combat. At this point the cashier just looked at the ground and started shaking her head. The guy would not let it go, just kept on going on and on. Followed me into the parking lot and kept telling me crap while I loaded the truck. I was nice about it, but my girlfriend and I decided he might have a few screws loose. I seem to attract these idiots somehow, I’ve had this same thing happen a hundred times. It's my understanding at this point that Rangers, SEALs and Force Recon are some sort of special programs for "slow" folks after all of the "operators" I've met. Home Depot must have some kind of box you check on your application if you were in imaginary Special Forces...

I hate people that love to brag about shit they have never done. I AM a medically retired soldier from the US Army i served from Dec 04 to June 09. I never saw combat in Iraq or Afghanistan i was diagnosed with brain cancer while in Korea and pegged non-deployable. My primary MOS was 15R, i was a "CrewCheif" on an Apache but had some friends in the "fun" units that got me in to some training events that i wasn't eligible for and it really pisses me off when people claim to have been a "secret Squirrel" and "black ops" and other crap like that. I'm not going to say that I'm Sniper Qualified because I'm not my MOS didn't allow it i wasn't 11 series but i did get to train with some of them from 5th Group. I wasn't a super soldier and i wasn't very decorated but i have me orders and i have my 201 file so i can prove where i have been. and these guys that stand on the corner with the signs "disabled vet in need of help" i want to hit with my truck because i am a disabled vet that has had hard times but like most of us I'm too proud to stand there and ask some hard working American to give me the money he busts his ass for to feed his family. I do what i can to take care of my family even though some times its hard to do but it doesn't get any easier seeing and hearing about these dumb SOB's that want to pretend to be one of us but in turn just make us look bad to those that are naive enough to believe their BS. Most of the guys that claim they were in are either kids that ran as far and as fast as they could when the recruiter came to school or even worse the Basic Training washout that just couldn't hack it and ran home crying to mommy to hug away the scary Drill Sgts voice. I'm going to stop my rant here i could go on and on and on but ill save you the time.

Well said bud. I have a lady in the office who was a basic training Navy washout. She is always talking about basic training and giving advice about military life. Basic training is not military life as we all know.

Hey, I handed out basketballs for the Fitness Center - don't laugh!

Between AF and Navy there's a good difference in how they run their programs and staffing. In my opinion the Navy has a better way of running things in regards to MWR v. FSS. Don't get me started on their structure!

    oh...GO NAVY!

Basic Training was.....well, Basic Training, exactly what the name implies. When I got to my actual first duty station, my Platoon IDC/Chief pulled me aside and told me "Everything you think you may know, you don't. Schools are great for information, but they don't mean jack if you can't maintain in the real thing. Take care of your guys, and they'll take care of you." One of the best mentor's I ever had, his thoughts, personal morales, and sayings are handed down to my sons. I applause any and all who have served, and given their younger counterparts the tools to become outstanding service Men and Women. We could learn alot from Air Force Sgt's, Marine Corporals, Army Specialists, and Navy/Coast Guard Chief's...the ones who REALLY run the military...
