Isn't it amazing that the drunks have a high survival rate in high speed wrecks.

I see a lot of drunk driving accidents being a volunteer firefighter in a rural area. The reason that most sober people get injured in an accident is because their body tenses up before the impact -- drunks have slower reaction time so their bodies remain limber during the impact and absorbs the blow better.

Tonight a drunk illegal that has already been deported at least once before totaled out my new truck that i had for less than a month. He came flying down me street in speeds in excess of 80MPH bottle of alcohol still in his hand and slammed into the front of my new truck. Hit it hard enough that the truck moved about 30 ft and didn't leave any skid marks. Split the driver-side frame vertically down the middle all the way to the back of the cab. And theres nothing i can do about because after he gets his free health care and get patched up hes going back to Mexico again.

You got insurance, right? Your truck is totaled. You get a new truck. What do you want to do to him? Nevermind... At least you were not near enough to it at the time to get hurt.

More than half the time, they don't have liability, a drivers license, and you can't collect because you don't know who or where he is or might be "staying".
Too bad you can't take an ear to remind everybody else that he isn't fit to ride the river with.

Sorry to hear of your situation. It is so frustrating as the true level of consequences will never be felt. He will be back almost assuredly and next time the results may be more tragic. Glad you are safe.

This reminds me of the time a drunk tried to knock my mail box down.
I left my shop one night to go get some food. One the way back, and deputy friend called me and asked were I was. I told em I was headed to my shop. He said he'll see me then.
When I got there, the big stoned mail box that sits in front of my house had totaled out a brand new dodge 4X4. My effort of filling 3x3x4 foot mail box full of cement still didnt work. The drunk just ran it over! The front axle of the PU was knocked out from under it! He tried to drive off but didnt make it far.
Biggest damn mess I ever seen in my life.

The shame of it all is that even though none of this is your fault, you can be sure your insurance rates will go up for the next few years. There's just no justice in the world it seems. But at least you're OK.

Crap, man! Do you still have the old truck? Thank God you weren't hurt physically.

That sucks! I used to SCUBA dive in Cozumel, Mexico a lot and rented scooters for $25 per day. They made it clear that if you wrecked, you would be detained (read that- put in jail) until the damage was paid in full. Here, we deport them, and they're back over here in a couple of weeks. I love this country but it sure has the market cornered on STUPID!

Glad you're safe, Sgt. From both accidents.

This exact type of situation is why I added "uninsured driver coverage" to my car insurance; that and liability. If its my fault, the other person is taken care of and I'm out of a car. If its their fault, I'll be taken care of, regardless of their coverage.

I'd love to take the quick and easy solution and litter our side of the border with landmines, but that'll cause its own host of problems.

Happy to hear you're safe. My brand new car just got crashed into in our apartment parking garage which is gated. The cops said they can't do anything about it, even if the car was still there if no one saw the person in the car when it happened. I'm sure the person was drunk because quite a few college kids are moving in here, and are always drunk leaving beer bottles by the cars.

The other day my Fiancé saw 2 people drive up, and hit the wires which drop off 3 stories. They got out of their cars with beer in hand. It's unbelievable how stupid people can be. The reason the cop said they can't do anything is because of the liberal county here in Austin. Basically in other counties he said the owner of the car would be liable, and that person would go to jail, or hand over the person who was driving.

An 8 ft joint of drill stem will take care of your mailbox problem, then just build your bricks or rocks around it. We had kids that kept running over the mail boxes out at the place, so we did that, and one Saturday morning I came out to the ranch to feed and found a BRAND NEW F-150 with a 3ft deep V in the front of it sitting where with my mailbox on it's hood and the drill stem still upright. The kids were there trying to figure out what to do now and how to tell daddy that the Ranch Hand grill guard that had been working SO well on mailboxes was no match for drill stem buried 5 feet in the ground.

I was told by my insurance agent that 40% of drivers are uninsured in Texas. So think about it. No insurance,no driver's license or I.D. of any kind. They give a bogus name and get fingerprinted and turned loose or bailed out and off they go,never to be caught again unless they get fingerprinted and then will probably be released again before it's discovered they are wanted. It's a revolving door that cost every other insured driver. Can you say"uninsured motorist"?

"Statist" policies at work - free health care, send them back to Mexico, so they can return through our "unsecured" borders and do it all over again.

just think how nice the roads would be if we could get ride of all the illegal idiots that don't have insurance. just came back from our hunting lease in Val Verde county near Pandale they come thru the ranch up thru the dry washes like cockroaches more every day to bad their ain't a season on them bet the tags would be free. We could build traps like our hog traps.

If someone is trespassing on your land, they are in season! This is Texas! You have the right to shoot trespassers. There is an entire coalition of border land owners who have agreed to shoot on sight. IDK the name of it, but maybe you should join. The feds aren't handling it, so at some point I guess it's our responsibility.

I feel for ya SGT!!! TOO BAD our GVNMNT DOESNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, fellas, I think the problem is that the government is to afraid of the consequences of trying to get out of this mess rather than not being sympathetic. For decades there just wasn't enough border enforcement and now we are in the middle of $h!+ creek without a paddle. The current estimate for illegals was almost 10% of the American population last time I heard. What do you propose we do with 25 MILLION people? We could do what Hitler did...in fact, we're seeing the same economic and social problems that Germany did with unchecked immigration. Whether the problem with Nazis is considered the genocide or socialism...; I can see Americans have been more socialistic by the way the vote turned out...what's next?

I would like anyone with an idea of how to realisticly solve a 1/10 person problem to speak loud and clear because we all want to hear it! I will take any silence as a quiet way of telling me you're all ready for World War III.
