Looks like the eye went over Lake Charles. Lord, have mercy and calm Laura down!
We lost power in Angelina County at 3 a.m. Just a steady rain and mild winds at this time.
I'll fire up the generator at dawn if it is safe to venture outside.

With all respect to those in the path, I can't wait to see CNN tell us about those 50' storm surges that "no one could survive." The daylight will tell, but it hopefully looks like damaging winds without the catastrophic flooding in Texas with our neighbors to the east taking the brunt of the rain/wind

Maybe you're missing a digit? There are 3 prisons, 1 club fed and a county jail in one area of Beaumont, all @ 20 miles inland.

They are NOT expecting 30 ft swells!

Yea, my bad on that. He just said Houston as a generality. It's over in Port Arthur. The word getting back to him from the guys talking at the prison was 30 ft, but now he's being told they only wound up getting a 4 ft swell. Looks like things won't be so bad for the prison, and he's still stuck with his ride after all.

I'm in the final stages of moving from LaPorte to the Lufkin area. I hauled my last load up here to East Texas this past Sunday - thinking I was getting out of the Houston area ahead of the storm.
At this point I'll ride it out in these East Texas woods. I don't even have a can of beans left at the house in LaPorte.

My sister, brother in law, kids and dogs are leaving my house and headed home today. Their place in Bridge City was spared since the storm shifted east before landfall.
