Interesting propaganda from MSNBC. Start the video at the 5min mark...
How Rick Perry is working to turn Texas blue - Video on NBCNews.com
Rick Perry is getting something done; something that no one has been able to do in Texas for the last two decades, and that is bring the Texas democrat party back to life. If we see an insurgent democrat party reorganize, galvanize, mobilize and grasp this incredible demographic potential in the lone star state, then the republican party as we know it is dead.

I don't think this is something we can just blow off. This "galvanizing moment" and Battleground Texas are going to be serious threats in the next election. I foresee a lot of out of state money coming to support democrat candidates. I'm worried for the future of Texas and I'm not quite sure what to do about it
    :p

Nothing new. All the democrats are leaving their states because they are broke and moving here because we have a stable economy.

It's going to suck here in a few years.

While I DON'T believe in the quote un quote Democratic party, I still believe what she did was for the better of a Woman's choice. NOT saying I that I believe in abortion but, with reasonable cause, and very unfortunate incidents that do occur, I believe the couple, and or woman has the final say. Miss Davis did what she should, and needed to be done for INDIVIDUAL rights.

And I really don't see it going blue.

    FYI, Life long REPUBLICAN.

...and now she's become a hero and is talking about running for governor :p

    It isn't Perry's doing...
That's just a talking point from the video... I certainly wouldn't put all the blame on Perry; there's lots of people that need to take the blinders off and stop thinking "we'll never turn blue!!"

Voter ID will allow a better chance of staying red. I also believe a lot of conservatives jave become complacent that the state is red and dont show up to vote. I hope if it gets close that they will be motivated to hit the polls. I do worry about the massive influx of out of state dems who desteoyed their state and will bring those flawed ideals here.

The immigrant bill just passed in the senate and that alone if passed in the house will turn Texas blue in 10 years, I'm against abortion but especially after 20 weeks, people using it as birth control and want the taxpayer to fund it.

The backlash wasn't really about moving it from 24 weeks to 20 weeks, but the fact that the new regulations would close nearly every abortion clinic in the state. We're not going to be able to legislate abortion away... Relaxing adoption regulations to make it easier for people to adopt would be the first step. Also make it sound like you're a hero if you give someone a baby who can't have one. Then there needs to be a really aggressive education campaign. The women's rights talking points are more or less just a tool used to emotionally sway people. People really need to start fighting for fraternal rights as well.

We need to end taxpayer to funding to MANY programs.

That immigrant bill is something like 1200 pages... There's no way this thing can be good for our country.

I am glad to see Dewhurst is going to have plenty of competition next election. With any luck he'll be booted out. With Perry and Abbott at the helm and a btter lt gov I think Texas will be fine for many years to come.

The Texas democratic party is still more conservative than a Massachusetts republican.

Colorado democrats were pretty conservative too

On the abortion thing I heard a lot of ramblings about it and thought TX was trying to damn near outlaw it completely with all the poo being flung. A 20 week limit seems perfectly reasonable even to a prochoice person like me though. At 20 weeks/5 months you should have had plenty of time to figure out your plan, killing a half born child is pretty wrong.

The voter ID should help a lot as well, even with the immigration bill being passed it should still wind up being a wash.

    Not Texas, yet!

Tell me about it. Most Republicans running here would be considered socialists almost anywhere else. Locally, and surprisingly, the Rs are of the conservative variety. But, there are only a couple of those.

Rick Perry has been finding creative new ways to alienate voters for years - he's gotten really, really good at it. While not managing our great state and tending the fires that drive our economy, he's been systematically stoking the wedge issues. As our Gov, he needs to chill on the wedge issue commentary, not diving into them with a microphone to rally the base...Chill...just a bit...let the Senators and Congresspeople duke out the issues.
He should be more statesmanly (apparently not a word, but you get my drift). Veto bills, avoid, delay - if necessary...but for goodness sake - shut up.
FWIW - I think that with his recent dumb-ass stunt he's pissed off most U-30 and women voters.
