Serious question: did S&W actually sell these with no rear sights?

Also @benenglish I vote for a separate section where mods can move failed for sale ad's to serve as a warning to others. Post a crappy ad and you will be remembered forever.

Yes, they did, as a Model 581, not a 586. The 581 also had a shorter front sight than the one the seller/OP had on the one he posted for sale.

Yes, that was what I posted in the thread. I was thinking it might have been a 581 that was stamped 586. That was before the picture showing the screw holes for the rear sight.

Moved and renamed. Feel free to cite other examples of how sellers can screw up and drive away potential buyers.
I had been thinking Andiamo's and AttaBoywhatever's threads were designed simply to draw attention to themselves. Hopefully this is the right call and they don't return.

That picture just confirmed my suspicions it was 586 missing the rear sight. I zoomed one of the pictures, and there was very clearly a notch at the rear of the tip frame where the target would have been. If I'm not mistaken, a 581 would have that area rounded off, not notched.

    Hey LS,

That would be a Model 581...Blue "L" Frame. .357 Mag/.38 Special. Fixed sights.....

Similar to the Model 58. Blue "N" Frame. .41 Magnum. Fixed sights.

    Hope this helps.
