Doesn't matter to me one way or the other....But if it were taxed and legal, the murderous cartel people in Mexico would lose most of their market, which is here.
But Mexico being what it is and has always been, the killers would find something else to kill over, opium poppies, cocain, more kidnapings, you name it...

    Legal, LOL.

Too many government jobs count on the drug war.

Too much power is invested in keeping it going.

They like the drug war! Allows more control, more chances to put people in jail and have felons. Plus we can now tie just about anyone to the war on terrorism.

The alcohol companies don't want the competition, and they pay big money to lobbyists to keep their corner of the market producing big profits. I have seen estimates of a 30-35% loss in revenue by them if cannabis is legalized. (Kinda like casino operators in LA and OK paying ministers in Texas to protest legalizing casino gambling here. Hypocrites!)

If we were serious about the drug problem don't you think we would have done something about all the heroin coming out of A-stan?? We own that miserable country and are doing zero things to stop the drug flow from there to the world.

On the off chance that it does happen............

You really think that if weed becomes legal that the little boutique guys on the left coast will all of a sudden pop up in every grocery store and all the hemp heads will be your buddies? There is one way it will go, the only folks that have the acreage to grow it, the manufacturing plants to process it, the distribution system to bring it to market, the advertising budget to promote it, and experience and ability to put a tax stamp on it is big tobacco. You can bet your sweet ass that they will control any legislation on it, and seek to put the little guy out of business. The same argument for strict regulation through legislation that is currently facing us on home grown/farmers market food and supplements/vitamins will apply to pot. Public safety trumps all else (even the constitution). Next we will have legislation that protects big smoke n' toke companies from lawsuits resulting from their products use. (Gotta protect the tax revenue stream, and not let the tobacco style lawsuits happen again.) They will come down hard on the little guys like they do on moonshine.

It ain't gonna be like it is in your fantasy's....

There's a bunch of small, successful wineries all over Texas. There's even a new outfit coming out with Bourbon. Most of which were started as small businesses. If they put out a good product at a good price they tend to last, if not they fail. How would this be any different?

I read an article (on paper not the web lol) saying that the feds collect something like 250,000 dollars a year in tax revenue from a TINY head shop in Cali that only deals in "medicinal" marijuana. Now multiply that or more across all the little shops in California and get an idea of how much tax money that would be lol.

I've said many times, the federal government will never allow a policy that leads to a decrease in funding to existing agencies. The anti-drug bureaucracy has been created, and here it is going to stay till the end of time.

Of course. God and the Federal Government are BOTH eternal.
I don't think so. Things change in this world.

If only that change would come! I'm waiting to see America return to a country that actually follows its Constitution, and one that allows its citizens actual freedom instead of rules, regulations, fees, and taxes that bury the individual.

Big tobacco also has the geneticists that can engineer a "superior" product.

    They're big for a reason.
