    Gun ownership hits the target of best ever...so far from the AmmoLand Blog.

    In an unprecedented surge of gun ownership across the United States, a recent NBC News poll has revealed a wonderful statistic: more than half of American voters, a staggering 52%, report that they or someone in their household owns a gun.

    This figure, the highest ever recorded in the history of the NBC News poll dating back to 1999, indicates a significant cultural shift in the American electorate’s attitude toward gun ownership.

    These findings suggest a deep-rooted change in the American psyche. With the increasing rates of gun ownership, especially among traditionally lower-owning demographics, the United States appears to be embracing its Second Amendment rights more than ever. This trend, however, continues to stir debate over the balance between gun rights and regulations, a conversation that is as American as the right to bear arms itself.

    From the AmmoLand blog; there are lots of guns in America. Click the link for more details.

    When NBC News released the stunning results of a new national poll showing 52 percent of American voters either own a gun or live in a household where someone else owns one, to get a full perspective about this rise in gun ownership requires a look at another poll released in September.

    Pew Research revealed the overwhelming reason Americans own guns is for personal protection. According to that poll, “About three-quarters (72%) of gun owners say that protection is a major reason they own a gun.

    More about the numbers of guns America and concealed carry population from AmmoLand blog;

    The Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) has just published its latest annual study on concealed carry permits. Concealed Carry Permit Holders Across the United States: 2023 (Nov. 30, 2023), authored by Dr. John Lott, Carlisle E. Moody and Rujun Wang, examines trends regarding concealed carry permits.

    Earlier, the CPRC’s 2022 study concluded that an estimated 22.01 million individuals in America had been issued a concealed handgun permit, a 2.3% increase over 2021. This was “the slowest percent and absolute increase that we have seen since we started collecting this data in 2011,” and the study attributed it, in part, to the 24 states at that time that had a permitless carry law in effect. The “number of permits declin[ed] in the Constitutional Carry states even though it is clear that more people are legally carrying.”

    A year later gun sales still doing well. Ammoland blog reports on Aug 2024 sales.

    After the unsuccessful assassination attempt on former President and current presidential front-runner Donald Trump in July of 2024, both firearm sales and National Instant Background Check System (NICS) checks have increased for August. The absolute NICS check numbers increased by 5%. The estimated increase in firearm sales was 9%. Both numbers are the fifth highest year for August, as shown in the NICS records. July 2024 saw an increase in gun sales of 5% over 2023. August has nearly doubled that increase.

    Updated gun sales from NCIS through Sep 2024 by AmmoLand blog

    Increased political tensions, a chaotic world environment, the reminder of natural disasters from Hurricane Helene, and the potential shortages of a longshoreman’s strike, are all plausible reasons for October numbers to be higher than the number of gun sales in October of 2023. The trend of 62 months of sales higher than one million per month is unlikely to be broken soon.

    You might be surprised. A big chunk of the state is hillbillies, farmers, and hunters. And they've all been buying like mad trying to get stuff bought before the bans came down. There are only 7 counties in Illinois that consistently vote blue. 5 up by Chicago and 2 down by St Louis. The rest of us were as red as they come..
