All I can say is that it takes two to tango... in order to receive a handout someone has to give it out. I'm for helping the elderly and the disabled, but people like her have no self respect. Nothing is going to change unless politicians have the balls to stop welfare abuse.

With a 40hr/wk minimum wage job she would make less before taxes than with unemployment benefits. Plus with a job she would have to pay for gas and child care and not smoke weed.
Unemployment benefits should make people want to get out and do something to make a better life for their families.

After listing her welfare income and discounts the hosts were able to calculate her monthly earnings to be around $1200 a month

$1200 a month, she is living the American Dream. And 3 kids to boot. I am so jealous.

Kind of like being on the board of directors for a company that is being sued and you are the one sitting in a jury box. Conflict of interest. To hell with the politicians doing anything about it. When is the taxpayer going to get tired of paying for it and demand change.

Seriously. If on handouts...why can you vote?

Not a lot of members know this, but I am on "handouts" right now, and I would hope I can vote.

I agree with you guys on here though. This lady makes people like me look bad.

I have a novel long list of health issues that, combined with some mistakes I have made, has tore up my life. So I got on SSI. I feel worthless, but optimistic.

My wife and I used to make a fine living, till my blood clots started to effect my liver. The result was that I had to be hospitalized for 1 week to two months, four times a year. I have 5 surgical scars on my stomach, others elsewhere, and have had over 20 endoscopies and an additional 50+ procedures to help my quality of life.

I used to feel ashamed, still do every now and then, but will admit, to help out, I moved back in with my mother. Yep 29 years old with three kids and now I live with my mother again. My left leaning buddies tell me to get on HUD, but I refuse to go further into government assistance. My wife hates it too, but with God's help, we will make it out and get back on track.

It's a bit embarrassing and shameful for me to admit this, but I am sick of hiding from it. My point is, some of us had no choice in the matter. I love my country and would like to vote. I wanted to join the military, but my illness forbids it. So I want to do anything else I can to help my country.

I read a lot of your stuff on the forum, and I agree with a lot of it. I don't think you're a jerk, or anything like that. But you do seem to generalize people a lot. Sometimes it's not that simple. This lady is a disgrace and it's people like her that make me afraid to admit that I need help, and am getting it. It hurts to think of what some people on here may think of me. I'm not lazy, I absolutely HATE handouts, but sometimes one must take, before he can start to give back.

Ah, this is turning into a rant in itself. Anyway, I want to vote.

Generalize a lot? Of course. I can't type out a fully nuanced view in each post.

I hope you are on the road to recovery. I've often said we should absolutely help the old, poor and disabled. (I know you arent disabled but such medical issues especially short term are disabling.)

So...yes. You are right. My statement was an over generalization. That wasn't the intent though as when read with context of the OP, I am of course describing people who CHOOSE a life of handouts and often one generation after the next. I have a lot of humility that I am just one car crash or other accident away from being down and out as well. You know that I was not lumping people like you in with people in the original post.

Sorry if there was any offense and I genuinely hope you are recovering in all way.

If a statement of mine comes across as a generalization, read the context it was made within and remember the totality of my my views expressed here.

    Take care.

Bad things happen to good people.... I don't believe just because you receive assistance it makes you a slacker. You are a tough sob for enduring your medical condition. The difference is that woman in the video has no pride. She measures success by how much assistance she takes. That is not you. Hang in there, you'll see this thru...

    Thanks guys.

I didn't mean any aggression or anything by my statement.

I Just wanted to balance out the discussion and give a little perspective. I understand what you mean now, not that you owe an explanation.

It's kind of funny, cause I noticed I get this feeling of, "no don't do this to me", when people abuse assistance. Then when someone makes a comment, as right as they usually are, and as much as I agree, I get all defensive, like "nooo not me though, I'm not like that, don't put me in that category". It's kind of childish, and I admit, I've grown insecure with my situation.

Funny; my grandfather and I talk about this a lot. How people abuse it an all. We'll get far into it, AND IM ALL ON BOARD WITH HIM, and we're laughing and having a great conversation... And then he'll be quiet and look at me, "Oh, but YOU need it son, some people do", all serious. Like he wants to make sure I'm not offended. It's funny when that happens. He's an old Vietnam veteran. Hardcore conservative, votes republican, NRA life member, yelling at kids in Denny's for slacking on his eggs and then ranting, like I am, to the guy about securing his future. Great old fella.

But that's all that was, perspective. Thanks for the honest conversation guys. God bless.

Thats real talk and I appreciate it. Health or illness is like a great equalizer. Im not old but not young. I need to take better care of my health. This is a good reminder. Then there are those undeserved curve balls that come our way.

I think it's foot that you feel guilt JC, I was on WIC for a little while after my daughter was born and it embarrassed the shit out of me to go to the store.

The problems start when people no longer feel any guilt or embarrassment. It means they are OK with taking from others. And now the socialist trend is pushing hard to make everybody feel like a winner, even if they are just showing up and grabbing a trophy.

Not saying you (or I) were wrong for needing help or that you should constantly beat yourself up, but it's what someone should naturally feel. It's what motivated us to better ourselves and gives us pride when we get back on top of things.

    Guys-
it wasn't my intention to bash anyone who has ever taken anything from the government. It was my intention to show that there are people in Texas who don't feel guilty benefitting from our money. This lady has no intention of using her help for a limited time until she can find work or get healthy.
People like her are stealing. Stealing government aid shouldn't be tolerated nor accepted. It's taking money away from seniors, the disabled, and other welfare programs.
If you need help you need help. If you feel entitled to live off the gov without putting in you're a crook - of course this includes the working aged and able bodied.

Yes, PLEASE be well and take advantage of your health. There's a few of us on here who have some pretty serious conditions, as you may know and I don't know about the rest of them, but when I see someone drinking away their liver, or smoking away their lungs, I want to go ask if they'll trade first.

Definitely agree. It makes me sad, the way our country is going these day, and I just want no part in it. So much so, that I've let myself become a big baby about it. I wouldn't call it self pity, but maybe more impatience. I know I'm not the only one with problems, and people like you, who do get out of a bad spot, give me hope and inspire me. Just takes a different strategy. I have to find a way to build a life around this sick body.

But I AM ALIVE, and that makes me happy every day. I have also been blessed with 3 amazing little ladies. The BEST inspiration.

I'm glad you guys got back on top of things. I can't wait till I can tell someone about how I got back on top.

Thanks, but I don't think we took it that way. Some threads kinda get into the "no exceptions" realm, but I understand what this one was about. I just misunderstood a post and wanted to share some perspective.

Sorry I pointed this thread in a different direction.

Lucy is right. All of us working wage slave jobs where 30-50% of our labor is taken from us are all idiots. I've got a job that I enjoy and pays pretty well, but at least twice a week I give considerable thought to selling off a few of my toys, quitting my nice job, and working just enough odd jobs to get by. I am so very tired of feeding the beast.

I've never lived uncomfortably and have gotten by on $1200/mo net before. I wouldn't want to live on Riverside Dr, tho
