    Gee, that’s just too bad.
    Times, they are changing.
Many have no interest in visiting what used to be an interesting place, since turned crapper.
I disagree on the descriptive term "crapper" of Fair Park. Most folks I know still love visiting the Fair each year. A real Texan looks forward to at least one Fletcher's Corn Dog and a beer each year. Some of the buildings need some upkeep and maintenance but so do most of us. The $$ will work itself out, no BS corruption going on.

Only time I went was years ago (1970) was decent. Had cooking contests, chicken raising contests. It WAS a fair. Now just a giant food court.
edit" I did go to a musical down there yrs ago, was good. Now it's just trash stuff.

Well, in all honestly it would really suck if their no guns policy chased away more people and that shortfall became even larger.

Hopefully, the state has enough common sense to let them go the way if the do-do bird.

I went to the fair this year for the first time ever (with GF) and it wasn't great. If GF asks me next year to go I'll go but I'm not making an effort to go again. Everywhere around fair park is a dense urban area where you check to make sure the door is locked.

Parking a few blocks away is $20, parking at the gate is $30. The half mile walk was less than safe, sidewalk in less than good condition on a busy road. No line to get in when we got there, but Tuesday at 2pm I would've been surprised if there was. Walk through a metal detector I'm not even sure was on; I had a pocket knife and the regular metal in my pockets, but no pistol. I didn't want to make that half mile walk back to the car to drop it off.

If you want to do anything inside like buy a beer, have a corn dog, or see an exhibit inside of a building is 8-14 coupons. To buy coupons you can talk to an uppity bitch to buy coupons 10 at a time. $1=1coupon. Or you can go to a coupon ATM to buy them 15 at a time. The fried food is meh, we weren't really feeling like getting indigestion as nothing was jumping out at us as a must-have fair food item. The animal/livestock exhibits weren't super active but again, Tuesday afternoon ho-hum. Saw the mini auto-show with all the new model cars, car salesman were thirsty for a sale.

There were plenty of police on horseback, motorcycle, and on foot. Seems like there was never not one within eyesight. Curiously there was "safety monitor" towers usually containing an old guy or a fat person staring off into the sky presumably with a radio to call for actual help if needed. Overall though I didn't feel helpless or vulnerable inside the fairgrounds. The no guns policy isn't a reason for low attendance.

Coolest displays for me was the mini auto show where I could sit in a couple vehicles without someone asking if I actually wanted to buy. Dodge had a few TRX trucks they were ripping around a mini dirt track getting all 4 wheels in the air. Some horse demonstration, and we walked around people watching.
$9 half pints of beer, $14 fried whatevers, and few "free" things to do were misses for me. I don't like to pay $28 for 2 tickets to look at an aquarium exhibit for 12 minutes.

I'm betting its bloated salaries, grift, and other mismanagement for their money shortfalls, not lack of attendees.
