I gotta go back and re-read that. Is there more than the whitehouse.gov fact sheet? It says:Pistol braces are now SBRs
A couple of comments -The Justice Department, within 60 days, will issue a proposed rule to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act. The alleged shooter in the Boulder tragedy last month appears to have used a pistol with an arm brace, which can make a firearm more stable and accurate while still being concealable.
- That text doesn't mean the rule will be implemented.
- Yes, I'm 99% sure it will but let's not be more pessimistic than necessary.
- We still have plenty of time to buy up all the braces out there and lose them in a lake where they can be dredged up later.
- I don't own an AR but I just bought an AR brace from Brownells, just because Biden doesn't want me to. (That may be a childish reaction but I don't care.) I may never use mine. It'll probably wind up as a door prize at a future reunion. But they're not out of stock and I suggest everybody get one or two.
- The reliance on the Boulder shooting as a cause to take this action is interesting, especially since I've seen pols that support this talking about "concealable assault weapons" as their (seemingly sole) reason.
- This coming rule is about the only thing I can imagine that would cause me to resurrect my T/C Contender. It's in parts in a bag, right now, because I hate that pistol. However, I have all the parts required to make it into a braced pistol.
- So, can a single shot pistol be a "concealable assault weapon", whatever that is?
- Do I have to get arrested to test this?
- Given that the bumpstock ban is failing on process issues and that a braced single shot is a ridiculous target for this sort of rule-making, doesn't the ability of the good guys to ultimately prevail in court seem like a solid bet?
- I'm 80% sure the answer is yes. Eventually.
