Hey guys got a quick question!!

The wife and I are looking into going to do some deer hunting probably next year not enough time now. I was going to get my wife a .243, and me a .270 or .30-06, can I get some thoughts and opinions on it!

    Thanks in advance!

Personally seeing the aftermath of the 30-06, 243 and 270....

The 270 is particularly explosive. The 30-06 makes a hole. The 270 is a sweet cartridge.

243 is very common around here. Low recoil as in it doesn't have much of a push. It however has a pretty good snap.

She might enjoy the 270 more. When it slaps the deer. No doubt. It's done and dead.

Don't get me wrong. 243 is bad@ss. The 270 will liquidate certain things better. You'll find these 'things'....pink froth sprayed.

My old father in law went from 30-30 to 243.

I'd tanned the hides. The beginning wound hole wasn't much bigger then the exit. I dispatched a few does with a Remington 742. 243 of course.

It'll kill them sooner or later. 270.... express mails it.

The 95 gr Nosler ballistic tip has a half dollar size exit wound at 275 yds.

Yeah I want to be able to just drop them, I don't want to leave a crater in them but want them to be taken out without going too far

And the lungs spray out the nose with a 270. Soft point. Someone lent me the rifle and rounds.

    700 BDL.

I've seen more and done with a 243.....not even a candle on devastation compared to the 270.

243 was created as a mid range, heavy bullet, varmint round.

It just happens to work on -100# deer too.

Now is there preferred brands or most .243 alike? Also what about scope?

I prefer fix power scopes. Say 6 power or 4. Higher powers and the reticle shakes more. Freaking you out. 6 or 4 power doesn't shake to the eye as much.

Look up weaver K classic. Simple, fine duplex. All you need to feed yourself.

Alright sounds good guys!! Are the vendors here good about scopes or do you have preferred places you purchase from?

Primary arms has real good glass for bargain prices.
    Upper end I'd try Vortex.

You can't go wrong with eithere a 243 or 270 in my book
I head or neck shoot doe , have for years, no reason to waste meat with a shoulder shot on them
Hit them square in the neck a few inches below the jaw and they drop like a sack of taters

.243 is plenty. Recoil isn't snappy at all. Very soft shooting. Drops'em without wasting meat.

.270 is a good round too. Won't waste meat if you use the right bullet.

30.06 is more than needed. It will work, but I don't really see a reason to go that route unless you just want more recoil.

.243 is the way to go IMO. If you need to blow away large sections of the animal it's probably due to being a poor shot. Deer aren't tough. If you go with .270 choose the right bullet so you don't waste meat.
