The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections has records for Routh going back to 2002. That year, he barricaded himself inside a business with a gun in Greensboro, per the News & Record.

In 2003, he was sentenced for driving without a license, carrying a concealed weapon and hit and run. In 2010 he was convicted of possessing stolen goods.

He was given probation for all of these charges, according to the DAC website.

North Carolina’s eCourts system has records going back to 1997 for charges such as no operator’s license.

Never got the vibe he was CIA or on their payroll. It was more a vibe of lots of plans and promises that needed something from others...

Watching the coverage on Fox now. The live feed on this article has ended, but:

The article states the rifle was an AK-47. Unless the guy was only about 100 yards away, who would try to use an AK for an assassination attempt? No dis on the AK, but it isn't exactly what you'd want for a 1- or sub-MOA shot.

Picture I found of the rifle left at the scene was that of a .308 Saiga.

Probably more accurate than an AK47 in 7.62x39, but still boarder line at hitting someone at the 300-500 yard range that Trump was from the wanabe shooter.

Without knowing the details yet:

What part of their mission did they not accomplish?

- The SS can't take over and shut down everything

- BEFORE Trump moved the SS swept the area and found the would be shooter and engaged him

- *if* the bad guy was behind some sort of armor/cover as the photos make it appear, it would be VERY reasonable for shots to miss.

I do expect the "He was on our RADAR" press conference within a few days...

Might have just taken his chances...

- Trump is well known to play a lot of golf

- Its probably not hard to tell if Trump is in town once you know what to look for

- Chances of being caught if Trump isn't there is likey very low so might have created his "hide" and gone to wait and see for a day or two even.

Try to imagine the level of stress Trump has running for Office: They are coming after your fortune in court. they try to end you at your rally, now they are wanting to eliminate you on the golf course. Melania must be telling him he doesn't need this job at this risk level. He is an old man dealing with all this BS.

Then there is Harris.... she has none of those distractions and obstacles.
