I wanted to be the guy who looked like he had a clue, only owning 556/9mm.

But since I’m generally clueless, I then added 22LR to the mix because it’s cheap and fun to shoot...
then 45 because I couldn’t bear to sell my Dan Wesson....
then 300 Blackout because they’re SOOO quiet suppressed...
    then 6.5CM because snipers...

Now I really want a 308 because it’s marginally cheaper to shoot that 6.5CM.

    But after that, I’m done.
Until the next shiny thing comes along.

I have entirely not enough .45 self defense ammo. Tons of target ammo, tons of 9mm. Just a box and a half of .45 hollowpoints.

If I survive til the next panick I'll make sure to have more.

Same. Then the wife wanted her two Smith's, so that's five calibers all by themselves (.38 and .357 the one, .45LC, .45ACP and .410 the other)
And her P238, and her AK, and then I remembered I didn't have a FAL in a while and a CZ 52...

    Hey at least I don't have a .40. Or a ten, yet.

Definately one way to look at it, but I prefer to think of them as purpose-specific tools (as opposed to toys; mostly, anyway).

For example, 300BO subs are definately fun, but what really lead me to investing in that caliber was the idea of these little suckers screaming out of a 6.5" bbl...

If we have any REAL SHTF situation,

all that ammo in different calibers is unlikely to go with us to wherever. . . . . .

Are we actually going to carry six pistols in different calibers?

Better to have lots in the one or two calibers we are most likely to carry away !

Other than .223/.556, do you have enough ?

Just realized that I told my LEO Son to shoot up a bunch of expensive older defensive handgun stuff, which he said worked perfectly when fired at ranges. Now very low on everything not .45ACP.

    Lesson being learned!

    Y'all take care !

This is why many of us went to one caliber for handgun a shotgun and a rifle after the last few rounds of this crap.

    Some like a 9mm handgun a 9mm pcc and 12 gage.

If your a prepper the idea of say glock handguns and pcc in your group in one caliber is mighty attractive. All that ammo and mags interchangeable into multiple weapons is not a bad idea.

Many of us would be staying at home so hauling ammo isn't an issue. We make live in block homes or on a resource like a large lake that also provides some natural barriers and is defensible even near big cities.

As an Old 1911'er, your .45ACP "target" will do just fine if it is reliable to "go bang". leVieux

? Like cute chicks in miniskirts ?

I generally agree with most of the replies, BUT, any of us could be FORCED from our homes by fire, flood, infestation, etc.

The idea of fortresses was debunked centuries ago. For very serious reasons.

Fixed fortifications are a testament to the follies of man.

I get it but the local marauders don't ride in Abrams nor is patton leading them.

It's all about choices and consequences.

I certainly don't disagree. In that respect, we are well-prepared except no private water well.

I personally believe most of what we do is unnecessary, but who knows?

Fortresses only became obsolete after the invention of heavy artillery.

Case in point, forts were a viable concept during frontier days, since Injuns didn't ride around with field pieces.

Yes, but the "siege machine", a giant catapult, & other tactical improvements ended medieval fortress warfare centuries earlier.

Yet, your comment is appropriate and welcomed.

    Thank you,

I’ve got about 1,000 rounds of 45 hollow points, and only a single gun that uses them. And that gun is just sitting in my safe.

Happy to ship some to you if you want

Could always use more ammo but this thread made me realize I need more mags!

    I’ve got a ton of unused/unwrapped mags.

Maybe I’m just paranoid, but I don’t trust any of them until I put lots of rounds thru them to verify functionality.

The only loaded mags I use, have all been tested by me.

Any of you guys the same?
