Agreed. My thoughts are that trouble was going to be in this girl's future no matter where she studied...
I was in a Mexican border town 5 years ago. Saddest part of the trip was when a teenager came up to me and asked if I'd seen his buddy. He had a picture of the kid. They'd been at a bar and gotten wild and last he saw of his buddy he was being dragged out by the federales.
Kid didn't even know enough to go to the US Embassy there in the town or how they could help him. I walked him over to the US Embassy and gave him and idea what to do there to help his buddy.
Two very important things to remember while abroad..
Where the US Embassies or Consulates are and where the US Missionaries\church groups are. (Mormon for me).
For the religion groups I've seen a Jewish group give aid to a guy from Israel who was in the hospital in South America The got him better care and helped him contact his family.
As a missionary in South America we helped out a couple of workers from the US by translating and giving directions around town.
