The KPRC-TV article is incorrect about the place of death: Jones's home was in a New Orleans suburb, not Houston. The family reported he died peacefully overnight on the 13th at his home. He was only 40 and no cause of death has been announced. Internet rumor (and we all know that those are always 100% accurate) is that it was a fentanyl OD most likely ingested unknowingly in a pain-killer that Jones had bought.

He had been hired just this year by the indoor football team, the Beaumont Renegades, as head coach and offensive coordinator.

Edit: Since I found the Click2Houston article, they've edited it to correct the statement that Jones's home was "in the Houston area." Objective journalism is only 98% dead...
