Gee, forgot about that as I stare at the 3rd treadmill we've owned over the years. I eventually lost the argument over the last one we purchased this year but at least I convinced her to get one that can fold down and be stored under a bed. I think it's been used 3 times excluding the cat using the mat as a place to nap.

NEW TOPIC: DEGRADATION OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES FOR ELDERS (& for everyone else)

Have you noticed how difficult it has become to speak with your Physician by phone? Well, that is usually very understandable.

But, can you call to speak with their Nurse, Assistant, Secretary, or even the Desk Clerk ?

Do you now find yourself confronted by a computer web service called “My Chart” or “EPIC”, which is similarly near-impossible to navigate ?

This was a seminal development in the deep state’s planned total takeover of all of our “healthcare”.

I recall, from back when a Med Student back in the 1960’s, that many Doc's predicted this. “Camel’s nose under the tent”.

Let me give one concrete example of how badly manipulated our ‘‘systems” are: In the late 1990’s in South Texas, the 9% of our patients who had private insurance, Worker’s Comp, & money paid for 50% of our income. Yes, that means that the other 91% who were on government programs or indigents were getting a free ride on younger & financially responsible Citizens.

A hidden but massive TAX never legislated !

How coud this be? Well, they made Medicare MANDATORY & tied to Social Security, si all elders were FORCED to “participate”. This gave the bureaucracy complete control over some half of the industry. That, in turn, let ‘them with the (OUR) Gold make the rules.

Mine use eClinicalWorks Healow. I can message my primary doctor (~ 40yo) prior to 6:30am and he will respond by 7:30am. All other physicians? They just have the system to show bills, appointments and test results.

I told my son that if I get Alzheimers, he should take me down to the lower pasture and have a hunting "accident." He said "Dad, you know I couldn't do that!" I know, but it would be an act of mercy. I watched my dad's mind go to Jello over a period of about 5 years.

I just recently retired, and I'm just beginning the process of de-cluttering. I need to sell some guitars and some photography equipment. And I need to give away a bunch of clothing.

My maternal grandparents bothe ended up in nursing care (both mid 90s) not knowing where or who they were at the end. My mom is 82 and sharp as a tack. I hope that it doesn't pass down the line. I'm only 55 but already worry about it.

As far as de-cluttering............heck I'm just hitting my prime still collecting stuff. I'm going to keep it all (the good stuff) until the end and leave it to my daughter. I'm sure I will end up downsizing a lot at some point though.

We all need a Family Doctor to oversee all of our care. Today, seems everything requires some “Specialist” or “Sub-Specialist”; but we need someone to know about it all and to supervise it. So please find yourself a Family Doc. An independent Family Doc is best if you could find one.

Another thing close to my heart is this: If you have any idea that you have a serious illness or a major injury, call 911 and do what the EMT’s tell you. If that is not practical, or would involve an inordinate delay; get someone to drive you to a HOSPITAL immediately.

I have lost 2 close friends, one in his 50’s & the other in his 60’s because they went to a “Doc in a Box” instead of a HOSPITAL.

Doc in a Box outfits bill themselves as “MINOR Emergency Clinics” and are not for life-threatening conditions.

I’ve been on the other side of this, too. Many years back when I was a Resident @ Baylor Med, I was moonlighting in a South Houston Clinic & the EMT’S brought in a guy in full cardiac arrest. Luckily for us both, I had been a qualified E M Doc before the Residency, and was able to intubate him & keep him alive while I rode with him in an ambulance to the nearest Hospital. A couple weeks later he came in to thank me. Our statistics tell that fewer than 10% of out-of-hospital arrests survive.

Take care of yourself. Get a Family Doc. Call 911 when needed.

In almost 40 years of marriage, I've told my spouse twice that I needed to go to the emergency room which being the typical male, it brings a look of terror to her face that something must really be wrong.

Odd thing, we went to Medical City Frisco (trauma level 3) emergency when I suspected a DVT and the entire ER staff seemed panicked once a DVT was confirmed which isn't a good thing for the spouse. They called an ambulance to immediately transfer me to another Medical City hospital (trauma level 1) where the ER/ICU staff acted like it wasn't too big of a deal though it could have been deadly. Just because it's a major hospital chain with an ER, they may not be high up on the trauma level rating.

Yes, but today the Docs have to be trained in some field like EM, GS, FP, etc.

A decade after the story I told, I was called out to interpret a facial CT on a trauma patient at midnight in a pretty big hospital. Finding an unexplained delay, I went over to ED & found a severely injured 22yo girl in terminal condition from internal bleeding. I, a Neuroradiologist, had to take over, institute life-saving measures like a big IV, fluids, ordered cells & blood, etc. & made them call the Chief of Surgery. Turned-out a Neurology Resident & a Dentist had been in charge and were in way over their heads.

Things like that are very unlikely in any decent Hospital today.

One major caveat for Texans: In Texas, “Medicare Certification” for small-town isolated area rural Hospitals may mean little or nothing re quality of care. I have seen them where the ambulance was better equipped than the hospital.

I’m an EPIC fan because with MyChart I can see all my test results, labs, notes, images, after visit summaries, etc…. All from my phone.

I can also message all my docs and they message me back… very quickly.

Much easier and quicker than calling, leaving a message, then missing a return call… playing phone tag

MyChart is the way to go IMHO
