I'm not a knife aficionado, but since autos are being legalized, and I came into a few extra bucks this month, I decided to order a Piranha P-1. I'm hoping that the quality is there, I only saw a few reviews. But what the heck, right?

What I don't like about the Kalashnikov (and the magnum) is that the button is kinda hard to press. (sits flush with the handle/scales so it won't accidentally get pressed, but you have to press it in pretty far for it to work. Kinda hard to do sometimes.) Minor annoyance, but can't complain for the money. Protech really has the button figured out. Easy and smooth as butter. As you would expect from something in that price range.

Question: Although now to be legal in Texas, how can an automatic knife be ordered? Fed laws restrict mailing. More importantly, from where can they be ordered?

    Thanks?

I tried to order an auto a couple of days ago based on the change in law, but the place I ordered from (I won't advertise for them) required my signing an acknowledgement and providing my LE/military ID. The Fed law is 18 USC 1716 (G)(2)(1-4) and 15 USC 1242-1244. Tx law may say it is OK but Fed law seems to say no. Unless you are active Military in performance of your duties or only have 1 arm. I don't even see an exception for law enforcement. Anyone know more about this or have any experience with it?

I'm not sure what to do with that wiki definition of a switchblade.

Here's what the Feds say a switchblade is:

"The term “switchblade knife” means any knife having a blade which opens automatically—(1)by hand pressure applied to a button or other device in the handle of the knife, or
(2)by operation of inertia, gravity, or both."

    15 USC 1241

So where it says "switchblade" it means an auto. Later an assisted open knife is excepted out.

I'm not sure what to do with this. I was asking about the federal law and if anyone knows how it has been applied. Particularly where, as in Texas now (or day after tomorrow to be exact), automatic knives are legal under the state law. Seems that you may be able to carry an auto under state law, but the Feds could make your life miserable for having one if they felt the need. Anyone agree, disagree or think different?

What is unclear? The wiki I linked clearly lays out when and where. Basically its up to state law except for on Federal property... In short, don't worry about it too much as long as you follow state law.

Nothing likes salt water.. I've been on boats all my life and all the stainless on boats will turn to shit if you don't do your bright work.
