Everyone wants to complain about Physicians. Doctors can be, and often are, WRONG.

One glaring & embarrassing example is the century of believing that peptic acid in stomach secretions was the cause of gastroduodenal ulcers.

A current erroneous “sacred cow” of many today is the notion that dietary fats are bad for Humans.

While many, especially Internists & Cardiologists, belong to that church and preach “low fat diets”; I personally believe that it is massively exaggerated.

Much greater causative factors for arterial & heart diseases are HEREDITY, smoking, & lack of exercise !

OTOH, recent scientifically valid research tells that high levels of sugars (NOT all carbohydrates) in processed foods are a much greater cause of chronic Human illnesses & death.

One thing I do know FOR CERTAIN is that most, virtually ALL, of the advice on the internet, in diet books, and in “health food” stores is absolute nonsense !

    But, believe what you will.

It seems the current trend is to pay attention to the source of the fats. For example, the fat in store bought beef is bad for you. The fat in an avocado and olive oil, and similar sources are in fact good for you. Also totally agree with you that exercise can change a lot of bad eating. But most of us don't get that needed exercise.

    Or maybe its just me.
    ;)

what beef are fed on determines fat content of the beef and therefor the flavor of the meat of course this applies to all meat animals

I think I’ve posted about my buddy’s farm before:

I can’t recall exactly, or if they still do it, but one thing I recall him telling me was that they finished it with grains from a local brewery.

They also had pigs that were finished in a 100 year old apple orchard.
    Damn good eating…

One main point that I can recall after buying half cows, is that there are no wasted cuts of meat. Every cut is amazingly flavorful, even cuts that most would overlook if they were at the grocery store.

Having lived across most of Texas since the 1960’s, here is a list of our all-time but still open Texas restaurants.

Remember that, for decades, the motto of the Texas Restaurant Association was:

    ”EATING-OUT IS FUN !”

    1) Wall Street Grill, Midland

    2) King’s Inn, Rivera Beach

    3) The SPOT, Galveston

    4) Arc-en-Ciel, Garland

    5) Cleburne Cafeteria, Houston

    6) Floyd’s, Clear Lake (this location only)

    7) Raven Grill, Houston

    8) Gaido’s, Galveston

    9) Water Street Oyster Bar, Corpus Christi

    10) Hofbrau, Austin (origional)

    11) Salt Lick BBQ, Driftwood, TX

Gone but not forgotten are: Roznovsky’s, Ship Ahoy, Josie’s, Ye Olde College Inn, Torch Steakhouse, Las Cazuelas, Plaza Club, & White Rabbit.

Speaking of 'Olive Oil', there's a foodie scandal about it being adulterated with canola oil with a tiny amount of actual Olive Oil in it for olive flavoring, but what you get is mostly canola oil.

If you're a regular Oliver Oil user (like I am) you have to really research the OO you use to make certain you're getting the real thing...

Also, what today is hailed (I'm generalising) as food or drink that's good for you, will be decried as bad for you next year...and so it goes.

Let's see, is coffee being praised or condemned right now as it goes up and down regular (almost) as clock work...though, I couldn't possibly care less what the 'experts' tell us...I'm slurping down my quart a day anyway.

Then, there's those pale, sickly looking people who insist you shouldn't eat meat at all...fk them.

"I've been getting a half side of grass fed beef for at least a decade now. It takes some getting used to, but its much healthier for you."

Scrawny, lean, tough as a boot beef is not something I'm going to search out...nope.

If it takes some getting used to...I'm gonna pass...

As the saying goes: You do you, and I'll do me.

Did I mention my wife found some beautiful, fat marbled, almost 2" thick, bone in Ribeyes for $5.99 a pound?

    No

She grilled one for us to split.

They're huge and she grilled it to medium rare, juicy perfection.

I've eaten at some of the best steak houses, Ruth Chris being one of my favorites and it was every bit as good as a steak you'd get there.

If its tough, you're either not doing it right or buying the wrong stuff. Even well done my grass fed beef is tender.

This stuff is exactly why I love getting the food I have.

I kill it, process it myself, and then eat the venison in my freezer.

I pick up the grass fed beef from the small town processor shop, that had been dropped off by farmer of choice.

I buy my fresh or frozen veggies from my grocery store.

Hardly anything I eat anymore has been processed. Cherios. Special K w cinnamon and almonds. Ketchup. Mustard. Milk from the store. Cheese from the store.

In my weight loss Journey, over 30 Pounds, I have cut out the exact foods they want me to eat. I do admit I dont eat all that healthy. I eat mostly meat and Potatoes . I avoid sugar and HFCS as much as possible. I avoid refined grains and bread too. I cook with Olive Oil and Butter. MY diabetes is almost licked. A1C 5.2 yesterday.

Has your endocrinologist given you a time frame for removing meds?

Mine has told me that if I stay at or under 5.7 for 18 months, it will be time to start reducing dosages with the final goal being getting rid of them all.

Well, one of my endos. They seem to have a flow of new doctors in that clinic every time I go in. :)

    PD,

    Cheap at twice the price...hhhmmmmm...

OK, I haven't actually looked at cost per pound, just the no artificial this feed or no soy feed that or no gmo stuff, but yes, if it cost a little over $20.00 a pound...ay yi yi!

I really hope that's not the case because if it is, who the hell is willing to pay that much for a pound of...?
As others have posted, buying from a local rancher who takes the cow to the processor can and should result in total price under 6 bucks a pound.
