Working overnight on one of our Texas projects and found this gal hanging out in a form for a major concrete pour that is happening in a couple of hours.

Figured she needed some help getting somewhere else where she would not become an insta-fossil

She was a little bitey at first but chilled out pretty quick for the walk over to the trees.

Wear your PPE when moving baby possums.

Oppossums are amazing creatures with real short lives.

I had to rescue one from a basement egress window at my previous home. It kept trying to go into the drain tube which led to my sump pump pit. It was a PITA but I finally got him out. He ambled off unharmed. I harbor no ill will but they some nasty buggers when they get grown.

Working in a chemical plant and one morning they reported an OSHA incident had happened the night before. One of the drivers moved a truck around to a loading rack late in the afternoon. While she was lining up the truck, a possum walked by. She had an extreme fear of rats and, being a city girl, had never seen a possum so she thought it was a giant rat. She jumped down off the truck, leaving it in gear, injuring her ankle in the process, and ran off for screaming for help. Fortunately the truck didn't hit anything expensive before it stopped travelling and we were instructed not to make fun of the incident.

I would have completely ignored that instruction.

As a teen I found them often. They regularly wound up in our feed barrels. I did my Houdini act with them. Left hand waving and flexing while Mr Righty slowly inched into the barrel. A little quick grab and I would pitch into the hay patch.

    Harmless.

It was fun to watch them play possum.

    Good job @Hoji

Just don't let one bite you. Their saliva is full of really, really nasty pathogens. Infection is assured and you'll be on heavy duty antibiotics for a couple months.

I chase off the one that cruises across my backyard early in the morning. It's always after my neighbor's chickens. Gardeners like possums because they eat slugs.

Had one scare the heck out of me a number of years ago. I was cutting the grass after work one day as dusk was setting in. I was cutting along the wood fence in the back when a possum dropped onto the top fence rail from the neighbors tree just on the other side. I was right next to it when it dropped, and I screamed like a bitch. Not one of my proudest moments as a dude. I’m not scared of possums, but I was caught off guard when that ugly red-eyed bastard dropped right next to me at eye level.
