    Andre3k, you are correct, sir!

Membership is limited to 300 IIRC, by charter.

    We are alive and well.

I had a former member track me down through arfcom and ask me to sponsor him for membership. I agreed.

We had had a sudden vacancy of 30-35 memberships and the membership call out was announced. We met at the club, did a little shooting then got to the paperwork. I signed, another member signed(who happened to be the membership chairman)who then suggested the prospective member take his twice signed form and introduce himself to some other members on the line and ask for their signatures as well. Prospect told the chair that he's good, there are only two signature lines anyway.

Needless to say he didn't make it in.

Every time I've been asked to "sign" I've been part of a string.

Years ago I wanted to join a gun club, they had a strict number, you had to be sponsored by a member. I finally got a guy to sponsor me, on the night to introduce myself to the board and was selected, I bought my sponsor a beer (customary). Turns out that was his thing, sponsoring and being bought beers.

Wow I missed that one. I’ve been going to Blackwood but I would love something closer to Cypress for sporting clays. Any suggestions?
If you find a place that's not listed in the first post of this thread, be sure to post it here so I'll know to update that list.

My daughter teams loves Westside Shooting club in Katy or American Shooting center in Highway 6 in Bush park. I prefer Westside as it is not crowded and very peaceful with no large groups behind when going stations. American can be great but on weekends more shooters than Westside.

Thanks, I'm going to try Westside.

It looks like Westside requires a membership. I'm trying to avoid that for now. I may have to bite the bullet eventually though.

I shoot weekly at Shooting Sports & Training. They have a nice 6 lane facility on Bauer Hockley, just off Mueschke, south of 99. Very nice people and facility. They are only open Thurs/Friday/Sat at 11am and Sunday at 12 noon. I have never had to wait for a lane (I get there around opening time). Very friendly and have a small gun store there.

Post #1 (the master list) updated with the new name. Thanks for the info.

Already on the OP list. Thanks for the mini-review.

BTW, I'm wondering about their ammo rules. One of the big reasons to use that range is that they didn't care if you used steel, aluminum, or brass cased ammo.

At least, that's the way it was at one time.

Now, I see things on their web site that have me wondering. For example, in the range rules, besides...

    9. Collection of spent cartridges is not allowed in this range.

    ...it also says...

    4. CERTAIN TYPES OF AMMUNITION ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THIS RANGE.
Steel core, Light Armor Piercing (LAP / green tip / penetrator), or Armor Piercing (black tip) ammunition are not allowed in this shooting range.

That seems to leave the door open to leave any type of case on the floor for them to sweep up - steel, aluminum, brass, or even those plastic hybrid cases. However, on the home page of their web site, in bold red type, it also says...

NOTICE: Absolutely NO STEEL ammo of any caliber. Frangible .223 ammo only!

    So I'm confused.

As a regular customer, can you clarify this for me? Do they care about the case material or only about the bullet composition? Or both?

Not real sure. I just shoot brass/ball target ammo. They do look at your ammo before you enter the shooting lanes But have never commented on mine.

My understanding is that generally the reason why they say no steel or no steel pen-uh-tray-tuhs is because the insurance provider for the range mandates that they won’t cover if steel penetrators are used, there is supposed to be another provider that doesn’t care but charges more as a result.

The other theory is that they are doing it for the customers safety because steel penetrators spark and cause an increased fire risk “not sure how valid that is but someone more qualified can chime in”

The third theory is they are selling your brass to make more money / keep range hour rates low.

Now I understand #1 and #2, but I have steel case ammo that isn’t magnet at the tip. If we go through the safety angle, I don’t see how steel “casing” would increase the risk of fire and also how that would affect wear to the backdrop. Maybe it’s just because ranges have gotten tired of differentiating between steel case (magnetic) vs steel penetrators (also magnetic) but kinda makes me a little sad that I can’t shoot cheap plinking ammo.

They usually open to the public but you might want to call.
Called Westside today. They aren’t open to the public. There’s a $1000 buy in and $160 a month after that. They did say that they would knock the entry fee in half if you signed up for a lesson or lessons. I can’t remember which.
