I can remember when Seattle was a nice place. Famous Championship bowler lived in Tacoma in those days. Residents sold out their properties for big $$$ when Microsoft changed the world. You get what you get when the locusts arrive.

Now Chinese are paying big $$$ for San Fran housing. I hope we like our new Chinese masters that released the plague (covid) in order to defeat Trump.

Never lived in Portland area. Visited friends in Beaverton, they moved out. I don't like cities at all, but Portland went from slightly weird to greatly weird to batschit crazy. I avoid it at all costs!!!
Funny thing is, I lived in the Tri-cities, Wa. in the late 70's and 80's and hated it. I took up to calling it the "dry shitties" like many others. Now I live in much the same type of arid area, just not as cold in the winter, and love it.

Yep. Tri-Cities weather has not changed. But the demongraphics really have. It used to be accessible only by 2 lane Hwy, now a massive freeway, and huge housing tracts. We don't like to go there either, but that is our closest major shopping for Costco, etc.

People from all over moving to tricities... weird. No trees/mountains. Just a bigger version of Hermiston/Umatilla.

    Wine country now.

I could do with less winter cold. Snow on the ground this morning. Gotta get the tires changed over. Miss being able to winter in AZ, but not physically able to drive the 5th down there anymore. Neighbors own a place in Yuma and left last Sunday for the winter. Yuma = UGH!!! When my family lived in San Diego, Yuma was an armpit and still is.... warm weather is not worth THAT!

I found out it’s an organization of like minded Americans standing up for what they believe in. Founded in 2009. I honestly had never heard of this organization before but I’d never heard of many of theses groups & organizations prior to this election cycle.

    OK.

But the organization that I belong to is made up of U.S. Military veterans and (maybe) LEOs. Who all took an oath to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Point being that the oath we took did not have an expiration date. Therefore, we further pledge, on record as members of the organization, to live up to that oath. On our sacred honor!! Whatever it takes!!!!

Forgot about the Teslas. Oh and the Toyota pickups built in San Antonio will become exports. The US will once again become dependent on foreign Texas oil. :) Wonder what we would call our money? Would we have to pay an exchange premium when we order from Amazon?

    Bozz10mm,

MOST "US-made vehicles" are predominantly JAPANESE, CANADIAN and/or MEXICAN these days, SO WHAT WOULD CHANGE if FORD, CHEVY & DODGE were "foreign cars"??

Also, IF Texas left the Union, it would be easy to reopen LONE STAR STEEL COMPANY in Morris County (IF making "domestic-made" steel/iron products ever became profitable again AND/OR there was a boycott of exporting/importing things to/into THE TEXICAN REPUBLIC), as well as other "heavy industries".

SHOULD Texas INDEPENDENCE ever become a reality, I suspect that OK & LA (and perhaps Arkansas) would "suddenly discover" that they were TEXICANS "in their hearts" all along, too.
(REMEMBER that in the 1820s & 1830s that OK, western LA & much of southern AR were claimed by SPAIN,, MEXICO, the CADDO REPUBLIC and/or by THE RoT, so their possible "feeling of coming home to a TEXICAN REPUBLIC" has at least some basis in fact.)

Another likely "thorny problem" would be deciding WHO "gets a TEXAS passport", becomes a "guest worker" or is an "enemy alien".
(I suspect that a "citizenship determination board" would decided that ALL native-borns get automatic TEXICAN citizenship, that IF you have a native-born child that you "get to stay" at least until the youngest child becomes 18YO & other persons who are within the new Republic's borders would be offered "permanent residency" or citizenship on a "by invitation" basis.)

Those are just a FEW of the issues that a new TEXICAN REPUBLIC would face.

Texas succession is a pipe dream and a fantasy at best, and will probably never happen.

    Axxe55,

Don't "bet the farm" that TEXAS won't eventually leave The Union, inasmuch as MUCH of the RADICAL/FAR LEFT DIMocRATS party & numerous NORTHERN States would HAPPILY vote to allow TEXICAN INDEPENDENCE & PERHAPS right now.
(According to a 2020 poll by the NY SLIMES, TEXAS is the 2nd MOST DESPISED of the 50 States, with NJ being SLIGHTLY "less liked".)

IF Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma & even Arkansas voted to SECEDE, a large percentage of the DYs & the Left Coast would APPLAUD.

Tell you what, hang onto that. I'm pretty sure your fantasies will keep you and your family fed, clothed and housed during the possible hard times this country could be facing.

I have heard of a Texas succession for well over twenty years, and probably even more so since the internet. Guess what? It hasn't happened yet. Every time there is some political crisis, keyboard internet warriors throw out this Texas succession.

Wake me up when it starts to really happen.

    Axxe55,

As I said, don't bet the farm" that SECCESSION won't happen sometime in the next decade, especially "IF the shooting starts" in reality in 2021
(At the least, a new/restored TEXICAN REPUBLIC is FUN to contemplate.)

Personally, I would volunteer to serve (W/O pay) on a Texas Citizenship Determination Board, to decide WHO is a REAL Texican, who can stay in The TEXICAN REPUBLIC, who would be summarily deported as an ILLEGAL ALIEN/DOMESTIC ENEMY & who would be BANNED FOREVER from crossing the new international borders, even to visit..
(I'm, SADLY, too damn old to volunteer for a notional TEXICAN MILITARY FORCES.)

Well thank God it ain't going to happen. Someone like you would probably throw myself and many of my family members out of Texas because we were not born here if you were on some stupid Texas citizenship board!

I'm glad that you think of yourself "qualified" to make such determinations and decisions about people's lives. I sure really thought you'd be the leading general of the Texican Military Forces!

    Gold and silver

    Hoji,

I have NO PROBLEM with Texas money "backed by gold & silver" BUT would REALLY enjoy carrying out OLD-STYLE Texas bills with the "bare-breasted woman" upon it.
(An old college prof of mine circa 1966 said that the illustration on the Texas 10 dollar bills was, "what we Texicans were REALLY fighting for at San Jacinto."= Everyone LOL, including the coeds.)

    Axxe55,

FYI, I am just as qualified (as I'm an 8th Generation Texican) to sit on a Citizenship Board as most any of the "good 'ole boys", including men who could NOT even write their own name, who gathered at Washington on the Brazos to THROW OFF the Mexican Dictator.
(> 90% of the Revolution's delegates were "nobody special" but they, in looking back to 1836, did OK in declaring TEXAS INDEPENDENCE .)

Addenda: One of my family's members was a DELEGATE at Washington on the Brazos & is said to have arrived "in town" riding a mule & leading a pack donkey. = REUBEN PLEASANT BANKS was just a "pig farmer" from Red River County & was said to have been both drunk & "barefooted" at the Texas Congress' 1ST meeting.)
    He voted for INDEPENDENCE.

    Odds are you are right.

But then no one thought there would be a war between the states.

No one thought that a bunch of disorganized, poorly armed Tejanos would rise up and throw off the Mexican dictator's yoke. Everyone thought it was just keyboard internet warriors (guys smoking and drinking in the tavern) spouting off.

So I would not say "never", personally.

I'd never say never, but if I were a betting man, I would put huge odds of it happening any time soon. Too many obstacles. People today have way different values and morals than those that fought for Texas Independence.

I'll bet you, that you can't find five people that would do what those brave men did at the Alamo. Willing to sacrifice their lives to buy Houston time to get ready to defeat Santa Ana. And they were not forced to stay at the Alamo. They could have left.

There is no way you can compare people of today to those who fought at the Alamo, or Goliad.

    Axxe55,

My GUESS Is that IF Texas ever declared for secession that the DYs would NOT fight to keep us in the Union. = IF "the left coasties" & DYs chose to field any units to defeat Texas secession, that the BIGGEST units would be RAINBOW battalions (like the BARNEY FRANK GUARDS, in bright pink "designer" uniforms) & that they would "run for home" at the first sound of gunfire.

    LOL, satx

Speaking of our "amateur soldiers", who rushed to GEN Houston's new Texican forces nearly 1/3 ARRIVED W/O firearms or even a knife & were "issued" an ESCOPETA, that had been surrendered at The Battle of San Antonio by GEN Perfecto Cos's forces.
(BTW, my distant cousin, Reuben Pleasant Banks is known to have fought as a Private at San Jacinto.)
