Police are "trained" to do things certain ways in certain situations but I'd certainly like them to be "trained" to use their own intellect and common sense also in handling all situations. "Training" should not be used as an excuse for poor judgement.

I highly doubt any LE agency is going to take advice regarding policy or procedure from some guy who asks another guy to ask questions of an internet gun forum.

The OP's friend/associate is apparently helping write policy, AND asking for input, so I don't see how its so doubtful. Its always helpful to have another viewpoint, whether it ends up being used in the official policy or not.

Cops and citizens do sometimes forget where the other might be coming from, so the fact that LE is asking is a positive, in my mind.

Believe it or not, a lot of cops don't know nearly as much about Law as they think. You would be surprised at the number of street cops that don't know, or don't care, that cap and ball or flintlocks fall under a different catagory than cartridge guns. I've even showed them the part of the Texas penal code that says it is, just to have them hand me back my phone and walk away without a response. Honest mistakes, can be overlooked. Willfull disregard, not so much.
If it's true, even if it is not used in training, any LE trying to learn how to best do his job fairly, is a good thing.
But it all comes down to this. Courtesy and respect goes a very long way. From both sides.

Use common sense. You really think a LE agency is taking advice from an internet forum through a guy who knows a guy?

JohnnyLoco, what do you do for a living? Even though I have no idea what it is I'd still like to tell you how to do it.....:stir:

Well the OP did ask on the behalf of LE the opinions of people in the gun community. I just obliged his request :)

It is illegal unless the person is licensed. How does a LEO ascertain that? He asks you.

Now do you suppose they just stop and ask every OCer they see?

This is what doesn't make sense.

He doesn't know if people who are driving have car insurance, yet why wouldn't Mr. policeman pull over every car on the road to see?

If they're going to make a stop, it'd be nice to know why. "Sir, we received a man with a gun call and are required to investigate. May I see your CHL for a second so we can both be on our way?"

Bonus points for "that lady over there called" and "ma'am, come over here, I want to introduce you to this man legally carrying a firearm so you can apologize to him for the interruption you've caused."

Then hand me a card with IAD's phone number and email address so I can make the complaint after the fact about the department policy of stopping people for engaging in legal behavior.

Somehow I doubt that makes the training.

I've never been asked by a police officer for my paramedic license.

I've never had the police stop by my house when the AC is getting worked on and ask for their AC maintenance license.

I did once have a limo driver that was driving my girlfriend and I around get stopped and have his chauffeur license checked. Well, he didn't have one and we were left on the curb downtown and had to take a taxi to our hotel.

Show me in the penal code where Paramedic license or AC license is required. Show me a discussion about a citizen calling and complaining about a paramedic walking around the mall.

I am in the private security business, and I HAVE had LEOs ask for my and others license.
