Because I've got buckets of it.

I found 3 rounds of 9mm in the last inventory. I picked those up at the last range cleaning.
I guess they failed to fire.

Any insights into the .45GAP? A friend just bought a XD in this caliber and I have never heard of it.

ETA: Now I know it's more of a novelty round, seeing as how only Glock currently makes a pistol designed in the caliber.

    Here's the ballistics Wiki shows:

Good idea introduced at a bad time......ammo crunches are bad times to introduce new calibers (.45GAP, .327FEDERAL, etc.)

I never understood what problem the .45 GAP was trying to solve. Sure, it has somewhat better ballistics than a round developed over a century ago but it also has the same glaring problem (limited ammo capacity compared to anything else on the market) is hard to find and poorly supported.

.357 SIG took a long time to really breakthrough and it's still not a common round by any means despite claims of giving you .357 Magnum ballistics in a standard combat sidearm package.

For the life of me I can't make a case for .45 GAP at all.

It appears they designed it to fit into a standard sized frame, so basically the same arguement for the .357 SIG.

I told my buddy to go ahead and buy it and just use it as a truck gun since he just moved to Arizona and spends a lot of time exploring the mountains.

    To All,

I'll not be buying another .45ACP or 9x19mm as NEITHER is LAWFUL for civilians to own in the Latin American nation that I'm planning to retire to in 2016-17. = the .45 ACP, 9x19mm, 9x18mm, 7.62 NATO, 5.45 NATO/.223 & some lesser known calibers are considered to be "weapons of war".
(Oddly enough the .30-06 is NOT on the list of "weapons of war" & is common as a hunting/farm defense weapon all over Latin America. = My preferred hunting rifle "down there" will be my model 760 Remingtons in .243, 6mm Remington, .300 Savage & .30.06)

My choice in a powerful SA handgun "down there" is the .38 Super Colt's Government Model & my "daily concealed carry" handgun will continue to be my Model 12 S&W, just as it is 7/365 here in SA.

Note: In addition to the Colt, I would seriously "look at" a RIA handgun in .38 Super, as I recently shot one that a school-chum bought last year & it's VERY NICE. - A few years ago, I would/could not have said that, btw.

That said, I carried a 1911A1 for over 2 decades in the Army & TRUST it as a STOPPER.
(With the right load, the .38 Super is equal to the .45ACP.)

Coulda swore I read about the .38 Super piercing what passed for body armor back in the 20's and 30's where a .45 or regular .38 slug would get stopped.

It's a hot little round but I think the US military adopting 9mm eclipsed it. Prior to the adoption of the M9, I remember it being quite common to see .38 Supers for sale, especially Colts.

    TheDan,

NO fire sale. = I'll give my "weapons of war" to my "brother of the heart" before we leave Texas. They will be "living" at the family's Mountain Lair in WV.

Ed told me that he may even "turn loose of" his treasured Model 81 "Police Special" in .35 Remington, with 4 15-round magazines.
(That particular rifle was used in "The Coal Wars" by the WVSP. -It is "A BEAST" too, as it is really great for brute firepower. = I've seen a photo of a policeman firing a similar Model 81 with FOUR empties "in the air" at the same time.

    CrazedJava,

Fyi, in 2016 there are SOME loadings of .38 Super that will defeat "bullet-proof" vests. - In my days of (long ago in another go-round) of working both sides of the TX-Mexico border, I carried a .38 Super Colt's GM & was "well satisfied" with its performance.
(Shortly before I was transferred elsewhere, I gave my .38 Super to a Captain in the Judicial Police & what he did to it made me laugh "behind my hands". - Obviously, he didn't know what LTG Patton said.)

Consider it a dead cartridge, especially now that Glock is doing what they should have from the beginning and slimming down the grips of their .45 ACP models. I've heard reloading supplies for it are even getting harder to find, which means eventually anyone with a gun chambered for it is going to be really SOL. If they're lucky someone will make a conversion kit for their obsolete pistols in a more popular caliber.

Not sure what could be hard to find aside from brass, and it's not hard to stock up on. Pistol brass also lasts almost forever.
