How much is the difference, then?
Assuming a max expansion of twice the original/bore diameter, nearly a quarter-inch. 9mm max is around 0.7", while a .45 would be 0.9". Tenths of an inch, not hundredths.

    I carry a 1911 in .22 TCM.

19 rounds with the recoil of a .22 mag and the knock down power of .45 ACP.

The hydrostatic shot alone is enough to remove limbs.

Isn't the TCM something like 2/3 the velocity/energy of a comparable weight in a 5.56 rifle? 39 grains at just shy of Mach 2 out of a 1911 sure as hell ain't something to sneeze at though, that's for damn sure.

Edit: Looks like the TCM is closer to 1/2-2/3 the oomph of a comparable .223/5.56 load from a rifle(3,200-3600 FPS). Still damn impressive.

As you can see the difference is about 1/10 of an inch in width.

It's a pretty hot little round.

I don't carry it, but I damn sure don't want to get hit with it either.

I ran mine across the chrony and was getting 50-100fps higher velocities than advertised. Still not a 5.56, but surprised to see a round put out better real world numbers than advertised.

Having observed those results, I was just as surprised. I've often wondered about it as a carry round. Would the extra penetration, potential shock, and negligible recoil make up for the (possibly permanent) hearing damage? That is one LOUD little beast.
