TSA Will Permit Knives, Golf Clubs on U.S. Planes - Bloomberg

Whoop! Back to the pre 9/11 days of being able to carry a knife.

The agency will permit knives with retractable blades shorter than 2.36 inches (6 centimeters) and narrower than 1/2 inch, TSA Administrator John Pistole said today at an aviation security conference in Brooklyn. The change, to conform with international rules, takes effect April 25.

    Here's what I'd recommend.

I've given a few AG Russel Ultimate Pen Knives as gifts and have a fancy one as well.

They are only 1.5 inches, the plain bolster one is about a thick as a quarter but they are handy and can be kept in a credit card sized pocket.

If you can find a Spyderco Co-Pilot they were awesome back in the day at exactly 2in and made for the rules back then. Discontinued now and bringing a good penny when found.

I think the TSA should just stay out of it, but that's just a love for freedom talking.

Since that will never happen I'll just drive, or better yet, stay home:)

Need to ditch the TSA altogether. Do like other countries do and make the airlines responsible for the safety of their passengers. Not a problem with El Al from what I understand. Why the hell do my tax dollars need to be spent so you can fly safely, why not charge those using the service not everyone else?

Ok, I have no issue with anyone carrying a knife on a plane. BUT WHAT THE H#LL! Golf clubs? What has gotten into TSA? Where on a modern commercial aircraft would you put carry on golf clubs? How would you maneuver in the isle? Most DUMB ASS thing I have heard from TSA this week....

Don't worry it's only 2 golf clubs. (Go figure) and no lockback knives.

So you're allowed two golf clubs? You can't take over a plane with only two clubs. If you had an entire set, that would be a different story.

It would be pretty difficult to swing a long frickin' golf club on a plane. I'm not worried about someone taking a plane over with a golf club. You can already board with numerous things that could be used as weapons that are easier to wield in a confined space. I'm more worried about them taking up the coveted space in the overhead bin since they can't fit under a seat for takeoff and landing.

    Stand by for another 9/11.

    A few dynamics have changed.

    1) Locked and fortified doors on the cockpit.

    2) Passengers know that hostage taking is no longer the endgame and resistance should be taken.

    3) TSA realized they are spending way too much time distracted by small knives and aren't able to pay attention to more important things.

    1. Last three flight I've taken I have seen the cockpit door left open more than once during the flight.

    2. Most people will still sit there and accept their fate.

    3. I want my damn finger nail clippers back.

Will not fit into new rules, they are locking. Cool little knife, will keep a lookout for one of these.

    Helotes!
Just what we need, people dragging more shit on airplanes and trying to stuff it in the overhead containers.

I'd be more impressed if the airlines would actual enforce their own rules about what is allowed to be hand-carried on their aircraft. I travel all the time and see bags and other items clearly exceeding the dimensions allowed and no one says a thing. I carry one small bag onboard and perhaps a laptop bag if required by work. The rest of my stuff goes in my checked luggage...

Finger nail clippers have been allowed for a while.

Also, I can't help but take exception to the way you spelled accept ("except"). J/K
