Just left the military surplus store with some hemorrhage bandages, CPR masks and enough gauze to dry up the oceans! I am CPR and first aid certified looking to get my EMS basic so I figured I should be able to respond to a medical emergency if needed!

What do you guys keep in your first aid/trauma kits!?

I'm an ECA (same thing as an EMT) so I have your basic boo boo kit, plus some other stuff for airway and GSW, and trauma.

I've got a "trauma" kit that has 2 cat tourniquets, blood clotter powder, blood clotting gauze, H&H gauze, Israeli bandages, gloves (can't think of the type... not latex, not vinyl), nasal tube, cleaning and alcohol wipes, benadryl capsules, assorted creams (burn, antibiotic, etc), couple of elastic tourniquets (think of the ones they use to draw blood)... that's all I can recall off the top of my head.

Now for the "complete" med kit, I've got numerous band-aids, gauze, couple different braces, gloves, meds, tape, etc.

With that nasal airway, if you don't already have some, get a small tube of K-Y Jelly to keep with it. I have a small single dose packet taped to mine. When you need it, it's there and no looking around for it.

It's there... 99% sure. Going off memory and that's been known to fail and leak.

I would say that the most important thing is knowledge. The gear will be worthless if you are unable to use it.
I am unsure if there are civilian first aid classes but training is important and essential.
One never knows when or if they will be thrust into a "first responder" role.

I agree 100%....I have my basic first aid (have since I was 15) and have been exposed to quite a bit which helps!

Second question.....did you guys buy a pre setup kit (if so, which one?) or did you build your own? Im planning to buy a decent trauma kit and just add to it every time I stop in somewhere with cheap supplies but im curious to know what everyone else has done!

This bug-out kit rides under the back seat of my truck and take it with me when I'm on the boat. If I'm hiking, skiing, mountain biking, or doing something where carrying this isn't practical, then I keep a smaller, very basic kit in my backpack/Camelbak.

Trauma is one thing, but your chances of encountering someone suffering a heart attack are a lot higher. Know what to do, keep the appropriate stuff.

    - Various bandages Kerlix/4x4/ABDs/Nonsticks/petroleum drsgs/steri-strips/bandaids/tampons
    - pocket mask
    - gloves
    - glasses
    - staple kit
    - Kelly's / Needle drivers
    - Trauma shears
    - various suturing supplies
    - various skin prep stuff for above
    - Duct tape, ACE, and various tapes
    - 3 feet of 3/4" nylon webbing
    - Saline for eye washing
    - Chap stick
    - Triple Abx ointment
    - suture removal kit (for tweezers and small scissors)
    - Whistle
    - Thermometer
    - Sharpie / note pad / extra ziplock baggies
    - Fingernail clippers
    - Pen light
    - Lighter
    - Children's chewable Aspirin 81mg
    - Synthetic wool blanket (stays next to bag under the seat of my truck)
    - Children's dye-free liquid benedryl (in the bag)
    - Epi-pen (in the bag, wife has allergies to certain insect venoms)
    - 200mg ibuprofen tabs, 500mg acetaminophen tabs
    - All in a med bag purchased from Amazon. ($16)

    Not pictured:
    - O2 bottle / bag with NRBs and Hiflow cannulas (still in the truck)

I buy pre-setup kits and add a few things to them. The kits will generally get you 90% there. Usually add some quikclot gauze, extra tape, softt or cat, ace bandage, and whatever extra stuff will fit.

As to which one; whichever is on sale.
I like to look for kits that have a durable case with a little extra room for me to stuff in things they left out.
